Week of January 29th

Study skills:  It is important that your child look at Pinnacle as there were many tests and quizzes given last week.  There is a Unit test in Math 1 this week, a poetry project due in 9th lit/comp.  10th lit is reading "The Hunger Games". Students are encouraged to look at all teacher blogs to get the most up to date information. 

Reading:  This week we will be focusing on verb endings, initial and final consonants, and Inferences.  We will have an emphasis on characterization as well. 

The week of January 23rd

Reading:  This week in reading we will be working on Fact vs Fiction, Fantasy vs Reality, Relevant vs non relavant information. 

Study Skills: This week in Study Skills many students have had their first quiz in each class or a project to turn in.  Student's will go on Pinnacle and take a look at where they stand grade wise.  We will also work on organization as they should have material that needs to be put in their notebooks.  We will be discussing the difference between studying and homework.  Many students feel because they do not have an assignment to turn in that they don't have anything to do.  Your student will always have vocabulary to review, notes to go over etc.

Week of January 17th

Study Skills:  Many students will have vocabulary quizzes in their literature classes this week.  Algebra 1Y will have a Unit 3 Quiz two test on Friday.  Those students who have Ms Roth/Rutherford Mr Thompson/Rutherford for Literature will have a vocabulary quiz over units 1-8 on Friday.  Earth System's students have a major project due on the Friday.  We are working on organizing notebooks this week as most student's should start to have work and worksheets that need to be organized and notebooks set up appropriately.

Language 3rd Period: Syllabication-theme of Art.  The focus will be on fact vs fiction, reality vs fantasy.  Skills covered this week include comprehension of story selection, persuasive advertisements, vocabulary development-synonyms, relevant vs not relevant information.
