2. Look at two essays written using Toulmin format and discuss/label parts of the essay (claim/grounds/warrants/qualifiers/backing/concession/rebuttal or counter-argument). Discuss and label any persuasive techniques used in either essay

3. Read article on texting. Answer questions on article and discuss. Finish for HW if not completed in class.

1. Homework checked: Crime Scene

2. Journal Entry: Is texting ruining the English Language? IN what ways does texting effect how students write formal papers? How should teachers handle papers that use "text" language? (students should write 1/2 page or more for journal entry)

3. Review HW Crime Scene: have students share paragraphs they have written on whether or not Queenie is lying or telling the truth. Discuss the elements of argument--"claim" and "evidence" or "grounds" and "warrants" to support the "grounds/evidence".

4. Toulmin Argument Notes: please see me if you were absent.

1. Worksheets--Crime Scene Investigators: students will look for evidence in a photo and a statement from a "witness" to determine if the "witness" is credible. They will take evidence and explore possible inferences from their own personal experience. These will allow them to link the evidence to their claim that the witness is either lying or telling the truth in her statement.

2. Must fill in chart of evidence and write a paragraph on the information above. Homework if not finished during class, but most students did finish--they had plenty of time in class to complete the assignment.

3. Vocabulary Unit 10 pgs due on Thursday, April 25th.
