20-24 September: Fall Break NJROTC Activities

It is hard to beleive we have been back in school for six weeks.  But unlike last year, we are getting an early break.  I hope all  cadets enjoys this opportunity.  But this is not all fun and play.  The drill team has its first major competetiion just around the corner.  To get ready, the drill teams will practice on the following days:

Tuesday, 21 September:  8 am - 2:00 pm

Wednesday, 22 September:  8:00 am - 12:00 pm

Thursday, 23 September:  8:00 am - 10:00 am 

Community Service

Thanks to those cadets who have volunteered assist Keep Cobb Beautiful (KCB) with its Document Shredding event on Saturday, September 25^th. The hours of the event are 9 am – Noon, but we anticipate another large crowd (KCB served 800 vehicles in 3 hours in April). Most likely people will be in line as early as 7am that morning. All volunteers should be in place at Piedmont Church (570 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066) no later than 8:15 am that morning. We will need to place 60 traffic cones to help the flow of traffic onto the church property, and will start shredding as soon as the trucks arrive on the property.

This is an excellent opportunity for our unit to provide some community service.  Keep Cobb Beautiful appreciated the support of Lassiter-Pope-Kell High School NJROTC.

 

13-17 September: General Orders for Sentries

General Orders for Sentries is the official title of a set of rules governing sentry (guard or watch) duty in the United States armed forces. While any guard posting has rules that may go without saying ("Stay awake," for instance), these orders are carefully detailed and particularly stressed in the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and United States Coast Guard. Also known as the 11 General Orders, the list is meant to cover any possible scenario a sentry might encounter on duty.

Monday, 13 September:  CPO President presentation (letter writing fund raiser)

Tuesday, 14 September:  General orders for sentries

Wednesday, 15 September: General orders for sentries (Con't)

Thursday, 16 September:  All hands uniform inspection.  General orders for sentries exam.

7-10 september: Naval and Marine Corps Terminology

The Navy and Marine Corps has lots of specialized language.  Some of these terms have to do with being a military organization while others have to do with being a nautical orgqnization.
