AP Chemistry

We will finish notes on Ch 5  - Gas Laws today or tomorrow.  Our Lab is Thursday.  This is a short chapter and should give you a chance to make an excellent test grade.  The November calendar is attached.  If you need help (if you have missed class time & don't understand) my tutoring time is Thurs after school.  I will be happy to help you then.

Chemistry

The November calendar is attached.  Our Lab on Predicting Products is tomorrow.  Be sure you have the Pre-Lab completed before coming to class.  This should include title, purpose, (leave room for 7 reactions in RXN Scheme), materials, and procedure along with pre-lab questions.  If these are not complete you may NOT begin the Lab.  Close toe shoes required.  You may use the data table you were given.

We will test on this material Nov 9.  If you need help with balancing equations (especially if you have missed some class time) my tutoring time is Thurs after school.  See you there!

AP Chemistry

Our Test is now scheduled for Wed 10/24.  This will cover Ch 3 & 4

Homework due:  All book work, balancing equations(1), & 2 other worksheets

Starting on Thurs we will be covering Gas Laws, Ch 5.  For those students going on the band trip, there will be a packet of practice problems to refresh your memory of Gas Laws.  For those of you in clas Thurs - Mon, we will do a precipitate Lab - no formal Lab report - and then work Gas Law problems.

Chemistry

We are going to have to change our calendar a bit to accommodate the band students.  This is the plan:

Wed 10/23:  Quiz over naming compounds (without flash cards); notes on naming acids

Thurs 10/24:  Band students pick up packets of work.  Begin skeleton equations

Fri 10/25:  Practice naming and equation writing; Character Ed lesson

Mon 10/29:  Types of reactions; solubility rules, activity series

Tues 10/30:  Reactions worksheets & practice predicting products

Wed 10/31:  Lab - Predicitng Products (Lab report due 11/2) Note: if you are not here on Tues - you MUST have your pre-Lab completed. /p>

Thurs 11/1:  finish Lab

Fri 11/2:  Quiz on naming and equations

Wed 11/7: Balancing Equations

Thurs 11/8:  Review

Fri 11/9: TEST over Ch 6 & 8

   

AP Chemistry

The Copper to Copper Lab will need to be completed tomorrow.  Come ready to decant and add the final acid & zinc.  Closed toe shoes are needed. 

We will cover Acid/Base reactions and Oxidation/Reduction reactions on Friday. Your Lab Books are due on Monday 10/22 and your test will be on Tues 10/23. 

Those of you going on the Band trip will need to check with me for assignments BEFORE leaving on Thursday.

Chemistry

Due to PSAT tesing we will have to adjust our schedule.  Please bring notecards tomorrow, 10/18, so that we can begin learning how to name compounds.  I will spend the first part of class Thursday going over your Unit #4 Test (grades are posted in i-parent) and then we will begin our unit on naming.  The topic is in your textbook in Ch 6.   We will continue with naming on Friday & you may expect some short daily quizzes to check for understanding.  (You will be able to use your notecards for these).

There will be a packet of information and worksheets for all students going on the Band trip which should be picked up on Thurs, Oct 25.  These will guide your through the material covered while you are on your trip.

AP Chemistry

We will complete the Lab today.  Lab books are due 10/22 - after the Cu to Cu Lab is completed.  So, go ahead and get this Lab written up in your Lab book so that you are ready to add the next Lab.  The Cu to Cu Lab will have to be moved to 10/18 due to testing schedule on 10/17.

The Test on Ch 3 & 4 is scheduled for 10/23.  For those of you on the band trip 10/26, please check with me before you leave for some handouts you can complete while on the trip.

Chemistry

The Labs that we have completed this week are both due on Thursday 10/11.  The Spectrophotometer Lab is a formal lab write up with the usual format, data, graph, conclusion and four questions included.  The Electron configuration Lab should include all 54 e- configurations, the Table (front & back) and five questions. 

The Model of your atom is due on Monday 10/15.  Please take a look at the ones I have on disply in the classroom and get started on yours.  It should not be too time consuming once you decide how to display the atom.  Anything that alllows the model to be seen as a 3-dimensional shape is fine.  I hope this will be fun for you!  My room will be opened early Monday morning so that you may drop off your model before school.  Be sure your name is firmly attached or written directly on the model !!  NO LATE Models will be accepted!

AP Chemistry

Yea!  The bonding test is behind us!  I will try to have those for you tomorrow so that we can go over them.  The grades are a mix - some great, some not so great.     Our next Unit is Ch 3 - Stoichiometry.  I am sure many of you will be glad to be back to something more math based & familiar.
