For the past few weeks, students in the Drawing classes have been working on linoleum block printing. Block printing is a process that goes back hundreds of years, dating all the way back to the 4th century AD in China. Printmaking is a reverse image process, meaning anything that is carved into the linoleum will print backwards from how it is carved. Block printing results in a high contrast composition, with bright lights and dark darks, with little to no value in between. Seashells were chosen as the subject matter for this project because of the vivid texture and movement that they naturally posess. Students experimented printing with different colors of ink and using a variety of papers as their backgrounds for unusual effects. Here are some examples.

Exhibition will be held at Kennesaw State University May 6-26, 2011. Awards ceremony begins with a reception in the Fine Arts Gallery of the Joe Mack Wilson Building from 5-6 p.m., May 6, 2011.
