Monday-Review chapter 1 of Night:  Write 10 facts from chapter 1 with your partner.  Finish reading chapter 1 in class.

Tuesday-Chapter 1 questions on Night in class.  Finish for homework.  Remember to always use complete sentences.

Wednesday-Discuss the answers to Night chapter 1 questions.  Begin reading chapter 2 in class. Vocabulary:begin unit 6. Homework: Vocabulary 6A, 6B;  Choose one of the discussion questions on Night and answer completely.

Thursday-Vocabulary review.  Night chapter 2 in class.  Homework: Write senteces with each vocabulary word.  Six of the words must be about the Lassiter-Walton playoff game.  Go Trojans!!

Friday-Check vocabulary sentences.  Finish reading Night chapter 2.  Begin chapter 2 questions.

 

Week of November 14, 2001

Monday-Begin reading Night.  Discuss vocabulary and Jewish terms.  Projects assigned: 1. chart of examples of kindness, cruelty, selfishness, unselfishness.  This is a major grade.  It will be due when we finish reading the book.  2.  Keep all of your handouts, notes, quizes, chapter questions,etc.  When we finish the book turn in all of these papers in a folder with a table of contents.  This is also a major grade and an excellent way to boost your average! 

Tuesday-Friday Continue with Night, chpt 1.  We are taking the first chapter slow to have a good understanding of the background, time period, and characters.

Monday-Synonym activity

Tuesday-Student holiday!

Wednesday-Grammar-uses of "good' and "well".  Begin Night-background information on World War II. 

Homework-find information on World War II, concentration camps, Adolf Hitler, and the Holocaust.  Write down your information.  You can ask family members or do research on-line to get facts.  This is not a formal paper.  You can write bullet points for your facts. 

Thursday-Discuss the Holocaust and World War II as background for Night.  Vocabulary test tomorrow.

Monday-Happy Halloween! Lesson 5 Vocabulary sentences.  Exercises 5A, 5B

Tuesday-Discuss, correct 5A, 5B.  Grammar-adverbs.  Homework-vocabulary 5C, 5D

Wednesday-Vocabulary drill;  Grammar-double negatives

Thursday-Grammar-Double negatives review;  Comparatives and superlatives

Friday-Vocabulary 5E orally in class;  Homework-answer the 5E questions for 3 pts extra credit on next test

Week of October 24, 2011

Monday-Vocabulary sentences:  5 of the sentences must be connected to The Monkey's Paw.  The words are:  depart, despair, gale, accurate, revive.  Your sentences for each of these words must reference The Monkey's Paw.  The other words can have sentences on any topic.  Finish for homework.

Tuesday-Vocabulary 4E.  We will do this exercise orally in class.  Vocabulary test Thursday.

Wednesday-Sentence conferencing.  Make corrections indicated (rewrite the sentence with corrections) to add 10 points to your score. 

Thursday-Lesson 4 Vocabulary test.

Friday-Begin Lesson 5 vocabulary.  "Brownie" sentences!  Get creative!

Monday-Review vocabulary; check 4A, B.  Do 4 C, D in class

Tuesday-Begin The Monkey's Paw.  New vocabulary from the story.  Make a prediction of what the story is about.

Wednesday-Finish reading The Monkey's Paw.  Writing assignment:  Write at least a half page and include the following:  1. Tell what you think was at the door.  2.  Where did it go?  3.  Why did it go?  Finish for homework.

Thursday-Writing assignment:  "Be Careful What You Wish For"  Explain what it means.  Give an example from the story.  Give and example from real life.  At the bottom of your paper answer the following question:  Can an object bring you good or bad luck?  Explain your answer.

Week of October 3, 2011

Monday-You will find a newspaper article that interests you and write a summary.  You will present the article orally on Tuesday. 

Tuesday-Present newspaper article.  Begin Vocabulary Lesson 3.  Do exercises A and B in class and finish for homework.

Wednesday-Vocabulary exercises C and D.  Make vocabulary cards.  Exercise E for homework.  Write a one word synonym for the bold faced words. 

Thursday-Begin reading Touch the Top of the World.

Friday-Finish the story.  Vocabulary review.  Write sentences with each word.
