Honors British Literature Week of August 29

9/02- Friday's short essay test- Review themes, tone, speakers, and literary devices.  Review all notes and handouts; reread poems several times - use gray book or both poems are on the internet.

Be sure you know the literary devices used by the Anglo Saxons- kennings, caesura, alliteration, assonance and that you are able to find examples of each in the poems.

 Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel starts next week; class copies are available for all students.  However, if you would like to purchase your own copy check with the local book stores.

Monday - The Year 1000 presentations continue

Tuesday - - The Year 1000 presentations continue; start Grammar Pre-test

Wednesday - Grammar Pre-test completed

Thursday -  Anglo- Saxon poetry "The Wanderer" - class handout and discussion of theme, literary terms, etc.

Friday - "The Wanderer" continues - there are many websites that give modern day translations.

Honors British Literature weekof 8/15

August 15 - The first day of school - Monday

Hello and Welcome! The purpose of this course is to introduce you to the major British authors and their works, to help you discover a rich cultural heritage, and to develop a genuine appreciation for some of the most time-tested classical works of art in the English language. Of course, we will be learning vocabulary, developing grammar, and enhancing our writing along the way!

We will get acquainted today, review the syllabus, schedules and transcripts. Meanwhile, we may have time to look over our textbook and go over the summer reading project.

August 16th - Tuesday - begin summer reading project/continue as homework
