World Geography

Today we took our test over Latin America- chapters 9-11.  Then we received a map of Europe to complete- countries and capitals.  The mystery country is Montenegro (capital Podgorica), created in 2006.

For homework, complete the map.  We will take a map test on Friday, Nov. 6 over the countries and capitals of Europe. Start reading chapter 12: Physical Geography of Europe.

Today we continued looking at the causes of the Civil War and took notes from Bleeding Kansas to the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. We then watched portions of the video series- "The Presidents" covering this time period (Z. Taylor, M. Fillmore, Franklin Pierce 1849-57).

For homework, read chapter 10 and complete the vocabulary.  There will be a vocabulary quiz next Thursday.  The maps were not collected today.  They will be collected on Monday. Test over chapters 9 and 10 is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Today we reviewed for the test tomorrow by playing a team jeopardy game. The 25 questions from the game are from the study guides and are on the test (the wording was altered to fit the format of the game). 

For homework, study for your test!  Look at the study guides for each chapter (9, 10, 11)and the workbook pages 29-34 for clarification. The jeopardy power point is also a good source.

Today we took our vocabulary quiz on chapter 9.  Afterwards, vocabulary was distributed for chapter 10 and we took notes on chapter 10 up to "B. Bleeding Kansas " on the fourth page.

For homework, read chapter 10 and complete the vocabulary.  We will have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday the 5th over chapter 10.  The test will combine chapters 9 and 10 and take place about Nov. 10.

Today we looked at the illegal drug trade between the US and Latin America- specifically Mexico.  We read two articles, answered four opinion questions, and then debated with the class.

For homework, study for the test on Friday covering chapters 9-11.  Tomorrow we will review.

Today we labeled and colored a map depicting the growth of the United States to fulfill our manifest Destiny.  We also answered questions about the growth in our study notes.

Today we observed some natural disasters that occur in Latin America and took notes.  Then we watched a video on the people of Latin America and learned more about cultural characteristics. Every student took notes on five important points in the video.

For homework, study for the test.  I am delaying the test until Friday giving us one more day to prepare.  Tomorrow we will cover the illegal drug trade (SSWG7.i Analyze the impact illegal drug production and trade have on Latin America.)

Today we looked at the Mexican-American War and the completion of Manifest Destiny (chapter 9 sections 2 and 30).  Tomorrow we will review for the vocabulary quiz and will complete a map activity.

For homework, complete your vocabulary and finish reading chapter 9.  The vocabulary quiz will take place on Thursday and then we will dive into chapter 10 with the causes of the Civil War.

Today we looked at Brazil.  In groups, we completed the guiding questions for chapter 10 section 4: Brazil- History. Then we each created two multiple choice questions (with four answers) and shared them with our groups.  These questions were turned in.

We have now completed chapters 9, 10, and 11 on latin America.  We have one more assignment for tomorrow on natural disasters and the drug trade, on Wednesday we will review, and on Thursday we will take our unit test.  Test questions will come from the study guides/ guiding questions from each chapter with a few from tomorrow's assignment.

Today we recieved the note guides for chapters 9 and 10.  We then looked at chapter 9 section 1: Westward Movement (specifically Manifest Destiny) and took notes on the Texas Revolution from chapter 9 section 2.

For homework, read chapter 9 and complete the vocabulary. We will complete chapter 9 this week and take the vocabulary quiz  on Thursday.  We will then start chapter 10 on the Causes of the Civil War.  The test will cover both chapters 9 and 10 and will take place at the end of next week.
