Lesson for Wednesday, February 1

Math 3  the students will be given a worksheet where they will have to solve absolute value equations.  Some of the equations will be equal and others will be an inequality.  Test next Tuesday, February 7

Calculus:  Retest over particle motion, linear approximation, mean value theorem, optimization and curve sketching using first and second derivatives.

Lesson for Tuesday, January 31

Math 3 will be solving equations with radicals and rational exponents.  The homework is from page 124 problems 1-35 odd.  Test will be next Tuesday, February 7

Calculus:  Continue with integrals and the formal definition of an integral.  We will discover the relationship between an integral and summation notation.  Homework remains the same however the students will be given  multiple worksheets on the basic formulation of an integral.  Retest over particle motion, linear approximation, mean value theorem, optimization, curve sketching will be given on Wednesday during class time. 

Lesson for Monday, January 30

Math 3  The students will be able to convert numbers or variables raised to a rational exponent to radical form, and convert from radical form to rational exponent form, be able to find numbers raised to a rational exponent by hand and also with a calculator.  Homework is from the workbook on page 124 and 125.  Do all problems.

Calculus:  The students will be given a retest on Wednesday, February 1, the test will include, particle motion, linear approximation, optimization, curve sketching and mean value theorem.  We will continue with Rieman Sums and look at solutions to problems with graphs and charts.  Homework is from page 270 11-19 all

Math 3  Worksheet on factoring and we will also talk about the SAT and look at some problems

Calculus:  Worksheet on finding areas under curves using RAM method

Calculus:  Starting integral calculus and finding areas under curves using rectangular approximations page 270 1-10 all

Math 3  Quiz over factoring and solving polynomial equations by factoring and solving polynomial inequalities.

Lesson for Wednesday, January 25

Math 3  the students will look at applications of real life problems that involve polynomials and then solving them  Homework is on page 83 problem 20, page 84 problems 1,2,4,7,21 and page 101 problems 33,34  Quiz on Thursday over factoring and solving inequality polynomials

Calculus:  Test over optimization, linear approximations

Math 3   Students will continue to solve polynomial inequalities.  Set equation = 0 factor and solve for x.  Number line and write answer in interval notation.  Homework is out of the book pages 83 1-17 all  Quiz on Thursday over factoring and solving inequality polynomials

Calculus:  Optimization problems out of the book, applications of real world problems must find the function and the relationship between the variables, take the derivative, solve for the max or min and then justify your answer.  Test on Wednesday Jan 25  problems out of the book page 226 problems 1-10, 15-17, 21, 22

Lesson for Monday, January 23

Math 3   Students will learn to solve polynomial inequalities.  Set equation = 0 factor and solve for x.  Number line and write answer in interval notation.  Homework is out of the workbook pages 91-95

Calculus:  Optimization problems out of the book, applications of real world problems must find the function and the relationship between the variables, take the derivative, solve for the max or min and then justify your answer.  Test on Tuesday Jan 24  problems out of the book page 226 problems 1-10, 15-17, 21, 22

Lesson for Friday, January 20

Math 3  The students just completed exponential and logarithmic functions.  We will now go back to polynomials and revisit them.  The students will be given worksheets for factoring.  This should be a review on factoring.  Students should be able to factor binomials, trinomials and polynomials with four terms.

Calculus:  Students were given back the quiz on concavity, increasing and decreasing intervals and linear approximations.  We will now look at real world applications on optimization where we will look at finding minimums and/or maximums depending on the problems.  The students were given a worksheet on Thursday and will be given another on Friday with solutions.  Test will be on Tuesday, Jan 24

Lesson for Thursday, January 19

Math 3   Students will take a test over application of exponential functions to include compound interest, growth and decay, appreciation and depreciation, half lifes and also solving inequality exponential equations and inequality of logarithmic equations.

Calculus:  Students will be doing a worksheet on applications of optimization.  Students will need to come up with equations from the word problem, finding the derivative, solve for when the derivative is zero, writing the answer to the question and then verifying that the answer is a minimum or maximum.  Test next Tuesday.
