Lesson for Thursday, September 1

Math 3

Hand back quiz on determinants, inverses, and finding the area of a triangle.  Students will be given a worksheet on finding the equation of a parabola, given 3 points.  They can solve the equation using Cramers Rule, inverses, or RREF  Test over matrices on Tuesday, September 6  The students were given a review sheet to study for the test.

Math 3  Quiz over determinants, inverses, finding area of a triangle, adding, scalar multiplication.  Test on matrices next Tuesday, Sept 6.  I will hand out a study guide for the test.

Calculus:  Review for quiz on Thursday over discontinuities.  I will hand back quiz on limits and we will cover most missed questions.  Test on limits next Tuesday, Sept 6

Lesson for Tuesday, August 30

Math 3

Task on solving systems of equations.  Students will be taught Cramers Rule, solving equations by inverses, solving equations using calculator.  Students will be given systems of equations worksheet to solve by the various matrix equations.  Quiz on Wednesday, students will need to know how to find the determinant of a 2x2 and 3x3 without calculator, inverse of a 2x2 without calculator, finding the area of a triangle given the three points.  The student will be given an outline of the material that will be on the test over matrices which will be given next Tuesday, September 6

Calculus:  The students will be given a quiz over finding limits algebraically and also graphically.  On Thursday the students will be given a quiz over discontinuities which include, removable, jump, and infinite.  On Tuesdsay, Sept 6 the students will take a test over limits.

Pass back quizzes on basic matrix operations, discuss Cramer's Rule, finding a determinant by expansion by minors, review determinants, inverses, finding areas of triangles with determinants.  Using inverses and other technology to solve systems of equations.  I will hand out a worksheet of systems of equations that the student can practice the above techniques.  We will have a quiz on Wednesday over determinants, inverses, finding areas of triangles, solving system of equations with matrices.   Test will be on Tuesday, September 6

Calculus:  Review for the quiz on limits.  Students must be able to find limits algebraically and also graphically.  We will have another quiz on Thursday over discontinuities.  (removable, jump, vertical)

On Wednesday, Aug 31 we will have a quiz over inverses, determinants, finding areas of triangles, cramer's rule.  On Friday, Sept 2 we will have a test over matrices to include all topics on quiz 1 and quiz 2 and solving systems of equations.

Math 3  Students will work on Walk Like a Mathematician Task.  Key concepts are determinants and inverses and the applications of determinants. Students should be able to basic matrix operations with and without a calculator.  The task will be a two day exercise and will be due on Thursday. Homework problems from the note taking guide pages 47-64.

Calculus:  We will be looking at limits as the function approaches infinity and negative infinity.  Also horizontal and vertical asymptotes from a limit perspective.  Homework is from Section 2.2 and problems are on page 76 1-7 odd, 9-12, 13-16 non calculator, 19,20 non calculator, 21-26 all, 27-33 odd, 35-52.

We will discuss the use of technology in addressing all basic operations of matrices.  We will look at determinates and inverses.  The students will be given the task:  Walk like a Mathematician and discover the concepts of inverses, how to show that two matrices are inverses of each other.  How to find the determinant of a 2x2 and 3x3 and some applications for using determinants.  The task will be a two day exercise.  Students will continue to work on the worksheets that were handed out on Monday on basic matrix operations.  Quiz on Friday over basic matrix operations.

We will conclude our first task on Central High Booster Club:  This tasks introduces the student to the utilization of matrices, formulating matrices, adding/subtracting matrices, multiplying matrices by a scalar and also matrix multiplication. Homework for tonight is to work on two worksheets with basic matrix operations and pages 51 and 52 in the notetaking guide.  We will discuss how to multiply to matrices together by hand and also using a calculator.  Quiz Friday over basic matrix operations.

Students took a 4 question quiz on solving system of equations by substitution, elimination, graphing.  Quizzes will be returned today and we will go over it in class.  Students were assigned pages 41-46 in the note taking guide and we will go over that in class.  Students will then be given a task to complete for the next two days over matrices.  The task is Central High Booster Club.  Students should be able to write a matrix from given information, add and subtract, do scalar multiplication and matrix multiplication.  This will be a graded exercise.

Calculus:  We are starting limits, graphic and algebraically.   Page 66 problems 7-30 all 35,36 No calculator even if directions call for a calculator.
