Math I Support - Final Exam Information

Tomorrow is the final exam for Math I Support, and remember 4 details!

1.  Due to graduation practice, I will not be there.  You will be in different teachers' classrooms for this final exam.  Attached is a spreadsheet of where you need to be Download Spring Roll 2010 (see page 2), and that list of your new locations is also posted outside my door.

2.  You may bring your old tests and the review sheet that you made in class to the final exam.  And, although I plan on keeping all of the paper that you have brought, you may come by later and get it, if you want to keep anything.

3.  Please bring a calculator and a pencil!  I will not be there and therefore cannot let you borrow mine.  It is your responsibility to bring a calculator and a pencil to the final exam.

4.  Do your best!  You are all capable of doing well on this final exam and I hope you do it.  Good luck - and have a good summer!

Math I Support - May 12

Tomorrow we will continue to review for your EOCT.  Now that you have seen one day of it, you should be better prepared to ask questions and answer review problems.  Please rember to bring your blue and gold  workbook entitled, "Georgia Mathematics 1 - Test Preparation and Practice"

Math I Support - April 14

Tomorrow we have an extended class period, so we will have a practice quiz for the first part of the period, and then go over the answers during the second part of the period.  This should prepare you for the real quiz in your Math I class.  This quiz will  concentrate on the functions:  f(x) = x³, f(x) = 1/x and

f(x) =  the square root of x. 

 

Friday we will review and on Monday, we will have a practice test on transformations of functions.  That way we can review this test on Tuesday before your real test in Math I on Tuesday. 

Math I Support - March 24

This week we have been reviewing transformations of lines, absolute value functions and quadratics.  Today students presented a problem - comparing a transformed graph to its parent graph.  We will continue to do this tomorrow, and will take a practice quiz on Thursday. 

Mathematics I Support

This week we are exploring graphs and transformations of graphs.  Last week we used the TI-Nspires to explore transformations of several common graphs. Today we used the CBR to graph an objects distance from the CBR as a function of time.  Tomorrow we will continue to investigate the meaning and importance of graphs.  Standards addressed include: 

MM1A1. Students will explore and interpret the characteristics of functions, using graphs, tables, and simple algebraic techniques.

a. Represent functions using function notation.

b. Graph the basic functions

f(x) = x^n, where n = 1 to 3, f(x) = x, f(x) = |x|, and f(x) = x1.

c. Graph transformations of basic functions including vertical shifts, stretches, and shrinks, as well as reflections across the

x- and y-axes.

d. Investigate and explain the characteristics of a function: domain, range, zeros, intercepts, intervals of increase and decrease, maximum and minimum values, and end behavior.

e. Relate to a given context the characteristics of a function, and use graphs and tables to investigate its behavior.

g. Explore rates of change, comparing constant rates of change (i.e., slope) versus variable rates of change. Compare rates of change of linear, quadratic, square root, and other function families.

h. Determine graphically and algebraically whether a function has symmetry and whether it is even, odd, or neither.

i. Understand that any equation in

x can be interpreted as the equation f(x) = g(x), and interpret the solutions of the equation as the x-value(s) of the intersection point(s) of the graphs of y = f(x) and y = g(x).

Mathematics I Support

I'm sorry I missed you today, but we are still having a quick practice test tomorrow 2nd period.  It will cover almost everything on your review sheet.  Therefore you should know about the fundamental principle of counting, factorials, permutations, combinations, probability, means, medians, modes, mean absolute deviation, box and whiskers plots, random samples and  bias.  Study hard!

Math I Support - March 2

Today, we tried to analyze the data of how much snow would fall on different sized sheets of paper in 1 minute.  We found the mean, median. mode and range of the number of snowflakes by category, and looked at the expected  number of snowflakes that would hit a sheet of paper in 1minute.  Tonight I will anaylze your responses to your 10 minute essay today and develop a 2-day individual assignment accordingly.  There will be a practice quiz on Friday over mean, median, mode, range, expected value, comparing sets of data and counting.   

Math 1 Support - February 25

Today we looked at probability and statistics together.  Their assignment is to compete this investigation that they started Monday.  Download Probability with Polygons  This assignment will be taken up tomorrow for a weekly grade. 

The next quiz will cover statistical concepts and will be on Friday, March 5.

Math I Support - February 18

We are presently reviewing the counting principle, factorials, permuations and combinations.  We will quiz on this Tuesday, February 23. 

Mathematics Support 1

This week we have been working on the concepts of distance, midpoint and slope and how those concepts illustrate properties of polygons.   Yesterday students had an assessment in class that I didn't finish grading by today.:-(  However, today students received anotherassessment that they may complete this weekend and turn in to replace the one that they took in class, if students believe that they can do better.  This assessment is due Tuesday 2nd period. 

Next week we will look at counting principles and probability.
