Accelerated Math II - February 18, 2011 - Complete the Box Task

Today in class, we started (and most came close to completing) the box task.  Your only homework for the break is compete this task and have it ready to turn in on Monday.  Enjoy this one!

Accelerated Math III - February 18, 2011 - Beginning Precal Review

Today in class, students presented their law of sines/cosines projects.  Most students did a very nice job on these!

The assignment for the break is to read pages 3-12 in their text and to work these problems:  Pg. 5:  1-3 and Pg. 13: 5 - 17 odd and 19 - 41 all. 

Accelerated Math III - February 16, 2011 - Sequence Test Tomorrow

Students have a sequence test tomorrow that includes any type of sequence - classifying it (arithmetic, geometric, harmonic, quadratic, Fibonacci, other), writing its next and nth term both recursively and explicitly (no matter what type), finding the term number when given the actual term and solving problems involving sequences.  The test also includes series of all sorts, especially arithmetic and geometric - both infinite and finite.  Complex numbers in standard, trigonometric and exponential form will appear on this test, as will power series, binomial series and perhaps a factorial or 2.  (All these topics are blasts from the past, but did appear in class and on the review sheet and do account for some interesting sequences.)  Remember that a review assignment was on the assignment sheet from our text and it has some interesting items on it...

Accelerated Math II - February 16, 2011 - Polynomial Test Tomorrow

Tomorrow, students have a test on polynomials.  They have a list of standards, a graphic organizer for theorems and important concepts that can be completed, many homework assignments with answers, a graded quiz, a huge assortment of review problems with answers and a simple practice test that they should be able to complete very quickly.  I believe most students know the basics, but just need practice to get great.  Therefore, tonight, practice what you feel you still need to work on. 

Accelerated Math II - February 9, 2011 - Polynomial Packet

Although the assignment last night was to complete this packet, not everyone understood that assignment, so we presented parts of that packet today and the assignment for tonight is to complete it.  A test on polynomials is scheduled for Tuesday.

Accelerated Math II - February 7, 2011 - Reviewing Polynomial Concepts

Tomorrow, students have a quiz on synthetic division, long division of polynomials, sketching graphs of polynomial functions, finding roots, the factor theorem, the remainder theorem, the fundamental theorem of algebra (and the related corollary), the rational root theorem, etc.  Today we looked answered questions about these topics and the assignment is the first two pages of a review assignment designed to help prepare students for this quiz and the test.  If students didn't pick up this assignment, it is attached here:  Download Charateristics of Polynomial Functions Learning Task
