More grades were entered today and I will try to get the tests you took today back ASAP so you will know what test you need to retake on Friday. Remember that on Friday you can retake one test that you have taken this semester, but feel you can improve opon. I'll need to know which test that is by 4 PM Thursday so I can have it ready for you on Friday morning.
The final exam review comes from your orange/purple books. If you want to get started, see:
Thursday we will be taking a reassessment - which is a retest on 1 test which you have taken this semester and feel you can imporve upon. This means that tomorrow, May 13, 2013 I MUST know by 4 PM which test you wish to retake or else you will not have one ready for you. And this reassessment day will NOT be changed. Furthermore, I can't accept any make-up work past Friday, May 15, 2013, so please make up all work by then or a 0 will be entered for that grade. :-(
Today we completed our look at the three special power series that approximate ex, sin(x) and cos(x). We learned about harmonic sequences, reviewed Fibonacci sequence and started proofs by induction. The assignment tonight is to complete the worksheet on harmonic sequences and look over the induction proofs and Mile's proof.
And for those of us who didn't realize that yesterday (5-8-13) was a Fibonacci day, today's date (5-9-13) forms an arithmetic sequence and Sunday's date (5-12-13) forms a Pythagorean Triple! What a great May!!
Today we checked the secret code homework and discovered that matrices can be used to find areas of triangles. The assignment for tonight is from the math III book: Pg. 41: 12 - 15 , Pg. 42: 13 - 14, Pg. 46: 15, Pg. 47: 13, 14, Pg. 51: 1 - 9
So far we have been studying arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, as well as reviewing binomial series and investigating the power series. Tomorrow, I will be checking homework, and just to remind you of what you have done:
Thursday: Sequence Investigation (This was the sequence that repeated after 5 terms. You needed to prove why it did.)
Friday: Sequence Exploration Pg. 639: 1 - 10 and Sequence Problems: Pg. 645: 1 – 24 odd and 24
Monday: Series Problems: Pg. 660: 11 – 51 odd
Tuesday: Power Series Investigation Task (Applications Pg. 657: Q1 – Q10, 1 – 10 will not be checked)
Tomorrow we shall see how these special power series are related! :-)
Today we looked at secret codes and how matrices can be used to make them. The assignment is problems on the worksheet 1 - 5 and (if you haven't already done it) the "Ordering Paper Mini-Task".
JUST to be clear on problem #2: You create your own encoding 2 X 2 matrix and you write a message. Be sure your message is clear and one that you don't mind anyone in the class (including me) reading. Use the method described on page 1 to ENCODE your message. Then, on one side of your index card, write only your name. On the other side, write A) the matrix you used to encode your message and B) the ENCODED message (not written as a matrix, but just written as a set of numbers separated by commas). Tomorrow I will take up these index cards, shuffle them and give them out to other students who will try to decode your message.
Today students took the 3-D/Vector test. AFter the test, students received the following homework assignment which must be done tonight.Download An Interesting Sequence - short If you picked up a copy of this worksheet that didn't have numbers, use your calculator to select 2 different random integers between -10 and 10 and use those. (If you ever have to divide by 0, change your initial 2 numbers.) I will be checking this as it is the intro to our statistics unit. :-) And the end of the year schedule might be : Download Accelerated Math III EOY Schedule
Today students took a quiz on matrices and we looked again at Gauss-Jordan. After that students could work on homework: Here is the tentative schedule for the rest of the year. Download Tentative Matrix Plans
