AP Computer Science A (April 28 - May 2)

Monday:  Case study questions & module 13 quiz  #1 due (-10 points for each day late).  The moodle site was down but I had given each students handouts of everything they needed to complete this assignment on Tuesday of last week.

Tuesday - Thursday:   Students should be working on the lab from module 13.  Upon finishing the lab, the students should show me the answers to their questions and then complete module 13 quiz #2.

Friday:  Review for module 13 certification exam.

AP Computer Science A 04/21/08-04/25/08

Monday - Finish up module 12 program.  Ten point penalty for each day late.

AP Computer Science A 04/14/08-04/18/08

Discuss coupling and cohesion and work on module 12 program.  It proved once again to be a little more challenging than anticipated.  I think that the students are also dragging a bit on their return from spring break.  Keep in mind that these assignments can and should be worked on during class but also outside of class.  Each student was given instructions during first semester on how to set up their computer at home in order to be able to work on assignments from home.  I am also available for help before and after school.

AP Computer Science Monday, March 31 - Friday, April, 4, 2008

Monday - Wednesday (Module 11)

• Quiz (Boolean Algebra)
• We completed most everything from the Lab in class last week so there will be no formal grade given for the lab itself.  Student's understanding of the lab will be reflected by the module 11 quiz-2 grade.
• Break up into groups of 3 and begin working on module 11 Program (Due at the end of the class period Wednesday April 2, 2004.  If not submitted at this time, 10 points per day will be deducted from the grade.

Thursday - (Module 12) Case Study

• Go over pages 22-23 from the Grid World Case Study Student Manual
• Complete Set 5-Do You Know? Questions

Friday - Begin (Module 12) Lab "Designing Classes"

• Since most of what is contained in this lab involves a reading assignment and researching the API libraries,the students should be able to complete a good portion of this lab today in class.  We will finish the lab on Monday when we return from spring break and begin immediately working on the module 12 program.  This program should not be too complicated and involves mathematical formulas that the students should be familiar with.  The program should take no more than one day to write and code.  These should be submitted by the end of the class period on the Tuesday that we return from spring break.  We will probably do the program in groups.

AP Computer Science March 17 - March 21

I have extend the deadline until the end of this week.  I also explained that we will condense some of the modules down to one week as opposed to two.  Many of the students do absolutely no work outside of class.  Although many students are using class time wisely, there are still quite a few who choose day after day to play games and avoid any course work.  Grades will be reflective of this.  Late assignments will have points deducted as specified in last weeks blog.  I am available each afternoon after school for extra help.

* NOTE *  Next week (March 24 - 28), students at Lassiter will be taking Georgia High School Graduations tests.  We will begin looking at the Module 11 Lab and Program and discuss Boolean Algebra.  Please make sure that you are keeping up with your reading assignments included in the lab. 

AP Computer Science: March 10 - March 14

• Module 10 Lab due on Wednesday 3/12/08.
• Module 10 Program due on Friday 3/14/08.

Note:  If students are not working on incomplete assignments during the class period, they will loose 1/10 of the possible points.  Class time should be utilized to read, complete, case studies, lab excercises and programs.  I will also deduct 1/10 of the possible points for each day an assignment is turned in past the due date.

AP Computer Science: March 3 - March 7

• Arrays & Array Lists:  Discuss Module 9 Program efficiency issues
• Work on Module 10 Case Study

• Read pages 16 - 18 of GridWorld Case Study student manual and complete Do You Know? Set 3. When finished take assessment m_10_quiz1.

We spent this week continuing to debug program 9!!!!! 

By Friday of this week, you should have the program running and uploaded so that I can grade it.  We will now move from arrays to array lists.  Upon submitting program 9, you should begin working on module 10.
