Tuesday - 6.4 The Determinant of a Square Matrix - continue with matrices, Monday we looked at the inverse of a matrix, today we will look at the determinant of the matrix.   Quiz over Gauss-Jordan (RREF) and test next Tuesday over matrices.

This method is less tedious than the minor and cofactor method found in your book!

NOTE:  Alternative Method for a three by three matrix:

• Copy the first and second columns of the matrix to form a fourth and fifth column
• add the products of the three upward diagonals
• subtract the products of the three downward diagonals
