AAT (March 29 - April 2)

Monday - We will now begin our discussion of Law of Sines and Law of Cosines. We will start on the law of sines and do page 512 problems 1-4 all 7-10all 12, 29,30,31,32,34,35.

Tuesday - We will look at the ambiguous case for the law of sines.  We will also continue with word problems;  Page 512 problems 5,11,13,14,15,17,18,19,23,25,27,36,37,38,41

Wednesday - Worksheet on law of sines ambiguous case 

We did not get to begin on the worksheet.  I went over the material from Monday and Tuesday with the students.  We will most likely catch up tomorrow and move Thursday's orginally scheduled material to Friday. 

Thursday - Yesterday we looked at the ambiguous case for the law of sines, the area of a triangle given two sides and the included angle.  Word problems are very important in triangles.  Today, we will look at the law of cosines and Heron's formula.  Continue working on Page 512 (get help, if needed).

NOTE:  #19 on the answer key is incorrect.  One of the pieces of the graph should fall from left to right as one of the equations has a negative slope.  Both pieces on the key are shown to rise. . . 

Also, #27 should have been worded more appropriately so that students would know which piece of the function actually included x=12.

Any changes to the calendar will be noted below by specific day. We will have a quiz next Thursday over Piecewise Functions.

Monday - Go over the Putting the pieces together task (Part I) and answer questions. We will continue working on this task one more night as many did not finish the last problem.  I also gave the students parts two and three of the task and asked them to begin working on part three only. 

Homework:  Finish Part One of the Putting the Pieces Together task.

Tuesday - We looked at Piecewise Functions.  We discussed equations and graphs of piecewise functions.  We walked through a few examples which can be reviewed by downloading the following powerpoint:  Download Lesson 2_5 Piecewise Functions.

7th period - This class had to retake the test from last Thursday due to an academic integrity issue. These students should see the homework assignment below and try to follow the examples in the book in order to attempt the homework problems.  We will catch up tomorrow during class.

Homework:  Page 51 #1-11.

Wednesday - We will go over some of the homework problems from last night and continue discussing piecewise functions and their graphs.

Homework:  If students are having trouble with the homework, they should begin the workbook pages first.  Use the textbook examples in 2.5 to help with the corresponding problems in the workbook.  In other words the problem on page 48 in the workbook titled example #2 corresponds with example #2 in the textbook on page 49.  The steps in the textbook are not left blank and they should students understand what to place in the blanks in the workbook problems.

AAT (March 22-26) GHSGT/CUMMULATIVE TEST ON FRIDAY!!!!!

Monday - First Period will not meet Monday thru Friday of this week.  We will have a cummulative test on Friday.  All students should stop by my room to pick up a list of problems to review before the test on Friday. You should make time to complete the review and get your questions answered prior to the test on Friday.

AAT ( March 15 - 19)

Monday - Quiz over Sum and Difference Formulas (The quiz included one problem from 6.5 Double Angle Formulas/Half Angle Formulas)

Homework: Make sure you have the homework assignment from pages 486 (#51-54, 61-64, and 67-70) ready to turn in and 496 (#1-27 odd, 31, 35, 39-57) ready to go over. We will go over any remaining questions you may have over this material. The test on Thursday will cover all of Chapter 6 (Using Fundamental Identities, Verifying Trig Identities, Solving Trig Equations, Sum and Difference Formulas, Multiple-Angle and Product Sum Formulas).

Tuesday - Review for Thursday's Analytic Trig Test (See above for specifics).

Monday - Today we expanded our focus on the sum and difference formulas from Thursday of last week.

Tuesday - Continue working on sum and difference formulas. . .

Wednesday - Due to an alternate bell schedule today (Lassiter's Got Talent) we continued working on yesterday's assignment.

Thursday - Today we began section 6.5 Multiple Angle and Product-Sum Formulas.  I gave second periods quizzes back today and we went over them.  I expressed to the students that if they are struggling with the material, they need to be coming in for extra help.  Coach Reichenbach is available in the mornings and Mrs. Lassiter and myself are available after school.  I will not be in class tomorrow.  I will be working off-site. I offered to come back after school if anyone wanted to come in for extra help and I had no takers. . . I am leaving notes (formulas and 10 examples) for the students to use tomorrow.  This should help them somewhat with tonigh'ts homework which will carry over as classwork tomorrow.

QUIZ ON MONDAY FOR FIRST AND SECOND PERIODS!!!!! At first, I was going to post-pone the quiz until Tuesday and include section 6.5 (the new material from today).  I have decided to not include section 6.5 on the quiz so EVERYONE WILL BE EXPECTED TO TAKE THE QUIZ ON MONDAY.  It will cover material from 6.4.  Please keep in mind that everything we have done up to 6.4 may need to be utilized in working the problems.

Homework: Pages 496 #1-27odd, 31,35,39-57odd

Friday - Continue working on the previous assignement.

Standards:

Students will be able to use trig identities to simplify expressions and to prove identities

Monday - We revisited compositions of functions and began a task in class that will lead us into our study of inverse functions.  Complete task as classwork.

• Workbook p.123 – 124 #s13 – 30 (5th period only. . . 6th and 7th need to simply complete page 114 #2-24even and 25-29all
• Finish task if you failed to finish during class.

Tuesday - Using Inverse Functions. Today we discussed how to tell if a relation is a function (VLT). We also learned how to write an inverse and how to tell if the inverse is a function (HLT - original function/VLT - inverse).  We discussed the domain and range of a function and it's inverse. Last but not least, we discussed restrictions on the domains of operations and compositions of functions.

Homework:  Page 118 #1-5, 9-19 all

Wednesday - Due to the alternate bell schedule today (Lassiter's Got Talent), we went over answers to Tuesday's assignment.  I took grades on Page 114, Page 118 and WB Pages 123-124.

Monday - We revisited Arithmetic Sequences and Series and began our discussion of Geometric Sequences and Series.  Notes and examples can be found in the book on pages 138 - 144.

Tuesday - Fifth and Sixth Periods cut short today (30 minute class periods) due to early release (SNOW).  Seventh Period didn't meet.  We reviewed the concepts from yesterday and did specific examples from the homework assignment.  Students should make sure they correct/finish the assignment before returning to class.  It will be taken up. The students should also work on memorizing the formulas for the nth terms of both arithmetic and geometric sequences.

Wednesday - Review for tomorrow's test.

Friday -  Operations and Compositions of Functions.  We also discussed domains of Operations and Compositions of functions.

Monday - Solving Trig Equations.  We discussed the importance of isolating the trig function and then using an inverse function to solve a particular equation.  We also discussed the importance of noting which quadrants were applicable in finding our answers.  Tomorrow we will discuss solving equations involving multiple angles.

Homework:  Page 478 #3,4,7,11-41all

Tuesday - Continue the lesson from yesterday looking at examples involving equations of quadratic type, multiple angles and inverse functions.

• Second Period was given an additonal worksheet in case we don't attend school on Thursday (SNOW/ICE). I will give the worksheet to first period students the next time I see them in class.
