Math II (January 25 - 29)

Monday - We began working on the Biometrics Task.

Friday - Today, we will had a short quiz that covered calculating the standard deviation of a population by hand.  Here is a review sheet we did in class to prepare for the quiz Download M2 Review of the calulation of standard deviation by hand. 

The spreadsheet may allow students some addes help with the Worksheet from yesterday entitled Math II Statistics Problems.  By plugging in a set of data, students can see how the measures of center (mean, median, mode) and measures of spread (IQR, variance, standard deviation) are impacted by the actual data.  Download Standard Deviation

AAT January 25 - 29

Monday:  5.4 Graphs of Sine and Cosine Functions - We went over the tests from Thursday of last week and then began discussing sine and cosine function equations and their graphs.  We began talking about key points (intercepts, maximums, minimums), amplitude, period, tranlations, and intervals.

Homework:   Pages 408-409 #1-53odd

Tuesday: Continue from yesterday and add transformations of the sin and cos functions.

Homework:

• Worksheet 2 (12 selected problems from front)

Wednesday: Continue our study of the sin and cos functions.  The students were asked to take given information and write the equations and construct the graphs of sin and cos functions.

Homework:  Worksheet 2 (complete front and add odds from the back)

Thursday: Second period did not meet today due to circumstances beyond my control.  Lassiter was under a lock-down.  We began applications involving sin and cosine functions in first period and will continue this tomorrow. 

Homework:  Word Problem Worksheets (Sinusoidal Curves)

Friday:  Today we reviewed sinusoidal word problems, worked a couple of them on the board, and answered homework questions. I took up Page 408 #1-53odd and the problems from Worksheet 2 (12 selected problems from the front and the odds from the back). The worksheet involved writing equations and graphing sin and cos functions. The students had to implement their knowledge of amplitude, period, vertical displacement, phase shift and key points of the parent graphs in order to complete these problems.

• Page 409 #55-61, 75, 77, 79, 81

functions.

a. Understand and apply the six basic trigonometric functions as functions of

b. Determine the characteristics of the graphs of the six basic trigonometric

functions.

c. Graph transformations of trigonometric functions including changing period,

amplitude, phase shift, and vertical shift.

d. Apply graphs of trigonometric functions in realistic contexts involving

periodic phenomena.

Friday - Begin looking at the sine and cosine function graphs.

Homework:  Graph the cosine and sine functions on the grids received during class.  Graph sine on one side of the paper and cosine on the other side.

Tuesday - Today we reviewed the concepts of mean, median, mode, five-number summary, quartiles and box and whisker plots.

Homework:  Students had ample time to finish a worksheet in class but if for some reason they didn't finish, they should finish for homework.

Wednesday - We will continue our discussion of the terms reviewed yesterday and add to that absolute deviation, variance, and standard deviation.

Math II (January 11-15)

Monday - I was not in class today.  The students were given a worksheet over Segment Lenths in a Circle.  We covered this topic first semester and this is simply a review sheet to encourage students to prepare for the credit recovery opportunity on Friday of this week.  Tomorrow the students will meet in the media center during our regular class period in order to take the county benchmark test.

Tuesday - Benchmark Test

Wednesday - Took grades but not all students were able to submit their grades to me.  I'll get these finished tomorrow during class.  We worked on answering any pending questions the students still had on any of the four worksheets that they were given previously in an attempt to prepare them for the credit recovery quizzes they will take in class this Friday.  If students wish to take more than two of the four offered, they can either stay after school tomorrow (my room) or come to room #214 next Tuesday morning at 7:15am.  These are the only two options available outside of class. 

Homework: Continue studying (working problems) in preparation for quizzes on Friday. 

Thursday - Continued preparing for credit recovery quizzes. . .We worked problems and I helped students who had questions.

AAT (January 11-15)

Monday - Welcome back from the long weekend due to inclement weather.  Classes didn't meet today due to Junior Diagnostic Testing.

Tuesday - Today we answered questions over 5.1 Pages 373, 374 and the worksheet that students should have been working on from last week.  All these assignments will be taken up tomorrow.  Answers to the worksheet will be discussed tomorrow during class.  I left my answer key at school by mistake.  We will also begin our study of Trig Functions (5.2) tomorrow.  GPS:  MAAT.6.1

Wednesday - Today we went over answers to the worksheet from 5.1.  We began our discussion of the six trig functions, trig identities (reciprocal identities, quotient identities, pythagorean identities) and co-functions. We also took our first look at the unit circle.  Tomorrow we will take what we discussed today and use the information to complete applications involving right triangles.

Math II (January 5 - 8)

I hope each of you had a wonderful break and are ready to get back into the swing of things.  We have a great deal to learn this semester. That being said, we began by making sure everyone was placed in the proper class.  We also spent time going over the syllabus to make certain that each student understood the classroom procedures and expectations. We will have a county benchmark test next Tuesday.  We will spend time this week reviewing concepts learned last semsester in preparation for the benchmark.

AAT (January 5 - 8)

I will not be in class on Friday due to Junior Testing.  My first period seniors will meet with Coach Reichenbach in the cafeteria and my second period seniors will meet with Mrs. Lassiter in Room #802.

Tuesday

- Let me take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to each of you this semester.  I consider it an honor to have each of you in my class .  We will begin the semester by making sure everyone is placed in the correct class and we will also cover classroom policies, procedures, and expectations.

5.1 Angles and Their Measures

We began today by reviewing , complemenatary, supplementary, acute, right, obtuse and straight angles along with the parts of an angle (vertex, initial side, terminal, side).  We also discussed standard position, coterminal angles, positive and negative angle measures, degree measure, radian measure and conversions from degrees to radians and radians to degrees. 

Assignment: Pg 373 #5,7,13-23 odd, 29-57 odd, 63 and 67

*Note* We did not go over converting decimal degree form to degrees, minutes, seconds and vice versa which is required for problems #s 17-23odd.  We will cover this tomorrow in class and this part of the assignment will be added to Wednesday's assignment.  Also first period students didn't receive a copy of the syllabus.  The student's will get this tomorrow.

Wednesday - 5.1 Angles and Their Measures

We continued studying angles and their measures by discussing arc length, linear and angular speed converting decimal degree to degrees, minutes, seconds, and vice versa. 

I will check off assignmets from Tuesday and Wednesday on Thursday.
