AAT (May 10 - 14)

Monday - I gave students a study guide and list of practice problems for the final exam.  We also continued working practice problems for the tomorrow's Sequences and Series Test.

Homework: Study and be prepared to turn in pages 704, 713, and 722 from last week.  We spent the entire class period today answering any remaining questions regarding this material.

Monday - Review for EOCT - Continue to work in Georgia Mathematics 2 Preparation and Practice Workbooks.  Question/Answer Session.

Math II (May 3 - 7)

Monday  -  Diagnostic Test

Students were given a Math II standards check list.  They will take a diagnostic test today and tomorrow during class and then use the checklist to identify standards not yet mastered.  Then, each student will use the check list to review any standards they have not yet mastered and work additional practice problems aligned to those particular standards.

Tuesday - Finish Diagnostic Test

Wednesday - View TestNavigation Tutorial in preparation for the EOCT next week.  After looking at the tutorial, I showed the students the links for the Question of the Day and the EOCT benchmark tests (USA TestPrep).  We worked through practice problems as a review. The students were told that they should be delegating some time to taking these on-line test at home as extra practice before the EOCT.  These practice tests are an invaluable resource.

Tuesday - Correlation and Median-Median Line (Continue from yesterday)

Homework:  Finish anything that you didn't do last night.  We spent time discussing working problems by hand and using the graphing calculators. We discussed best fit lines and median-median lines.

Monday  - 9.3 The Inverse of a Square Matrix

One problem quiz tomorrow - Study 6.1-6.3.

Tuesday - 6.4 The Determinant of a Square Matrix - continue with matrices, Monday we looked at the inverse of a matrix, today we will look at the determinant of the matrix.   Quiz over Gauss-Jordan (RREF) and test next Tuesday over matrices.

This method is less tedious than the minor and cofactor method found in your book!

NOTE:  Alternative Method for a three by three matrix:

• Copy the first and second columns of the matrix to form a fourth and fifth column
• add the products of the three upward diagonals
• subtract the products of the three downward diagonals

Wednesday - 9.5 Applications of Matrices and Determinants

Wednesday - We are starting matrices and looking at order, square matrices, main diagonals, augmented and coefficient matrix, elementary row operations, Gauss eliminiation with back substitution, Gauss Jordan. 

Homework - Page 640 problems 4,9,13,15,17,31,33,41,43,47,55,59 (We will continue the lesson tomorrow as I didn't get to finish going over notes today.)

Thursday - Continue matirces. Study examples 7,8, 9 and 10 in the book.  We did go over these concepts in class.

• axis of symmetry ( x=a, where a is the x coordinate of the vertex
• domain (what can x be)
• range (what can y be)
• intervals of increase/decrease
• absoute value/step/greatest integer/other piecewise functions (solve, graph, write equation as a piecewise function)
