Week of 11-29-10

This week we will study the formal structure of Congress – the committee system, lawmaking, interaction with the other branches.  We will also watch a video about Newt Gingrich, Bill Clinton, and their respective bases of power.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 11-29-10

We are coming into the home stretch of the semester and will study Industrialization and the Gilded Age in this unit.  On Monday, 11-29-30, there will be an open notes quiz on Chapter 13.  The last SHUSH Test of the semester will be given on Tuesday, 11-30-10 at 7:15 AM in my room. We will spend the rest of the week studying big business, the labor movements, immigration, urbanization and the changes in the South and West.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 11-15-10

Last week we distributed a hard copy of the calendar for the rest of the semester and while we may have to make some minor adjustments, the basis remains the same.  This week we will study Reconstruction.  The test on the unit is on Thursday, 11-18-10 with the SHUSH Test on Tuesday, 11-30-10.  This will be the last SHUSH offering of the semester.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 11-15-10

We will finish Civil Liberties on Monday and spend the remainder of the week discussing Civil Rights.  The test over Unit 7 is on Friday, 11-19-10.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

The Unit 4 FRQ Download AP Unit 4 FRQ - OK, is due Thursday, 11-11-10 and if it is turned in via email, should be sent to lhsgovernment@gmail.com.

 

Week of 11-08-10

The elections are “over” and we have been integrating the elections into our study of political parties, special interest groups and the media.  The formal study of the media will be conducted the first two days of this week and a take home FRQ will be distributed on Tuesday, 11-09-10 and due Thursday, 11-11-10.  We are then going to start Unit 7 Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.  Discussion begins with the First Amendment and progresses from that point.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

 

Week of 11-08-10

We have spent the last week looking at events leading up to the Civil War and will now address the war itself and Reconstruction, the period which follows.  Last week, grade sheets were sent home for signature and if not already returned, should be brought back on Monday, 11-08.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.
