Week of 11-01-10

This week we will study more of the specific events that lead to the Civil War; starting with the election of 1848 through Lincoln and secession.  The Chapters 7, 8, and 9 SHUSH Test will be given on Thursday, 11-04-10 at 7:15 AM in the Theater.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

 

Week of 11-01-10

The Faces test was survived by all with many A’s and 100’s as the result. Just a few more formal words about political parties and then we move on to special interest groups and the mass media.  School is closed on Tuesday, 11-02-10 for Election Day and Wednesday will see us analyzing the Midterms.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

 

Week of 10-25-10

The first half of Monday students will finish the group discussions of the various reform movements that occurred 1812-1860 and then we will start our study of manifest destiny.  Chapters 7, 8, 9 will be tested on Thursday and we will announce the SHUSH test date at the beginning of the week.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-25-10

This week we start the study of Unit 4 with the history, functions, and organization of political parties.  While we have been discussing parties the past 10 weeks, this unit provides the formal structure of the topic.  The Faces test is on Friday and will be the last grade to go into the 12 week progress report.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-18-10

Well.  Between school wide testing and Homecoming week activities, we fell somewhat behind and have had to put the test for Unit 3 off until Friday of this week.  We will finish the Presidential nomination and election system – including the Electoral College – and delve into the mysteries of campaign finance.  Please see the revised calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-18-10

We are going to start the week with an Industrial Revolution activity that utilizes primary sources and will include students interviewing one another about the documents they read.  We will also hone in on the Andrew Jackson and conclude the week with a two day exercise about the various reform movements of the era.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-11-10

The due date for Judiciary test corrections was extended to Monday, 10-11-10.  This week we will be looking at reapportionment and redistricting, both of which will reflect changes in the upcoming year due to the census conducted this year.  We will also discuss the Presidential nomination and election system with directed attention to the Electoral College and campaign finance.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-11-10

We focus on the industrial and nationalistic development of the country with Friday devoted to discussing whether we truly experienced and industrial revolution or whether it was a series of factors that evolved.  The Chapter 6 SHUSH is Tuesday, 10-12-10, 7:15, in the Theater.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-04-10

Judiciary test corrections are due 10-08-10 for 1/3 point for each corrected question.  We begin Unit 3: Public Opinion, Political Beliefs, and Behavior; Elections and Voting this week by spending a couple of days on the shaping, defining, and measuring of public opinion and then lead into voting and elections and voting behavior and Congressional elections.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.

Week of 10-04-10

We continue the study of the new country by looking at the time frame from the election of 1800 through the War of 1812.  The Unit 2 SHUSH is this Tuesday, 7:15, in the Theater and the Unit 3 test is this Friday.  The due date for 6.4 has been moved to Wednesday.  Please see the calendar and Key Terms for course of study details.
