Homework for this evening is on page 282, 1-6, 7-12 (use calc) and 13-22 solve using graphical methods.
There will be a quiz on Friday over summation notation, extimating areas under a curve using rectangle approximation methods, finding the exact area under a curve using the limit definition of an integral, AND values for definite integrals using graphical methods.
This week we worked on two diagnostic tests for Math I and Math II. The results of these tests will help determine what concepts need to be reinforced this semester and how long we will spend on them.
The class is really small and so I have high expectations for everyone! We should have plenty of time to work on group projects, tasks, AND master the material as well.
Parents, please plan to attend Lassiter's open house on January 22 from 6:30-8:00. I look forward to answering as many questions as you have about the new math curriculum and the new Math II course.
We started a very short unit and should have a test on Tuesday, January 13th. Homework for Wednesday, Jan. 7th is out of the book on page 226, #3, 5-10. Thursday's homework will be a worksheet.
Welcome Back! We started our new unit already and attached is the assignment sheet for both chapter 7 and chapter 6. I will be checking homework on a regular basis this semester so please stay caught up. Download H-Chapter 7&6 2009
Important dates:
Tuesday, 1-13: Polygon Quiz
Thursday, 1-15: Chapter 7 Test
Friday, 1-23: Chapter 6 Quiz
Tuesday, 1-27: Chapter 7 Test
The test has been changed to Thursday, 11/20. As discussed in class on Friday, your assignment over the weekend is to download the attached practice quiz and attempt to complete it in a single 54 minute period. I will post the answers to the practice quiz sometime Sunday. As I will be at a workshop on Monday, students will work in groups during class to complete the practice quiz. Do not show up to class on Monday with a blank quiz. You need to have at least attempted these problems and identified areas that you need assistance from your peers. Please note that the answer to #5 from the quiz returned on Friday was incorrect. Think about how to approach particle motion problems in the following ways. 1) If a particle moves along a curve and you are only asked how x or y is changing at a particular moment, then you just take the derivative of the function, 2) if a particle moves along a curve and you are asked how the DISTANCE from the particle to a given point, most often the origin but not always, then you use the pythagorean theorem to set up the relation and find the derivative.
Yesterday we looked at statistical concepts of mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, variance, and the 5-number summary. We also looked at histograms and box-and-whiskers plot. The assignment was to finish the task that we had started in class.
Today we looked at the Normal Curve, Z-scores and the Empirical Rule. The homework for tonight is Pg. 267, 1-20 and to do as much of the Z-score worksheet as you can. We find probability the same way we found percentile rank, since both represent the area under the curve. And, although the book asks you to use a table, you may prefer to use your calculator to find the probability or percentile rank.
The remaining schedule follows:
We started Unit 6-Related Rates on Wednesday. Homework assigned so far is...
