Thursday, 1/12: We spent a large amount of classtime today going over problems from the PSAT. Students should review the attached answers from last nights homework. Download Factoring Worksheet 2 Answers A new worksheet "Quadratic Extensions" along with the answers were handed out at the end of class. Student will find many of these problems difficult but we will work to complete them by Tuesday.
Friday, 1/13: We reviewed the "Quadratic Extensions" worksheet and additional hints were given how to make conncections with the previous two worksheets. Students should work to complete this entire worksheet by Tuesday. An additional worksheet on "Completing the Square/Changing Forms of Quadratics" was handed out today. For the most part these concepts should be review although the methods that students approach each problem may not be the most efficient one. Students should work towards significant;y completing this worksheet as well.
Wednesday, 1/25: Attached are the answers to the review #1 worksheet. Download Quadratic Test Review #1 Answers Ms. Poss' blog migh have the answers to the "mini-test" given in class.

This course was very busy at the end of the semester and I feel the need to highlight a few items.
EOCT: Students took the Math II EOCT on December 14th and 15th and the results were already posted in Pinnacle on December 20th. Over 60% of the students in my class performed in the exceeds category scoring 90 or above.
Log Test: When the Logarithmic Function test was returned to students, they were instructed that test corrections could me made to earn extra points on the test. This was meant to not only improve their test score but also aide in the review of these concepts for the final. Test corrections were due NLT Thursday, December 22nd.
Final Exam Review: Two worksheets (front and back) were handed out after the EOCT for students to work on reviewing for the final. Students were instructed that if they worked all problems on a separate piece of paper, they could hand in their work on the day of their final to replace a low test score (provided their final score was higher).
Statistics Test: The statistics test was given on December19th and unfortunately the scores were extremely low. They have been posted in Pinnacle and overall grades impacted. Possible reasons for the poor results include 1) we took 4 days to review for the EOCT and then 2 day to take the EOCT just prior to closing out the statistics unit or 2) students knew they would be able to drop a low test score and didn't bother studying for the test. Either way students need another opportunity to show what they know about statistics. The current statistic test grade will remain in Pinnacle unless it is indeed the low test score AND your student turned in a complete review packet. The second test on Statistics will be either Thursday, January 12th or Tuesday, January 17th. There will be no in class review for this test but I will hold review sessions both Tuesday, January 10th and Wednesday, January 11th immediately after school until NLT 5:00 pm
Final Progress Grades: Since I have allowed students to turn in log test corrections and final exam review packets in up to the last day of school, progress grades may or may not reflect these opportunities. This is because all grades for the entire school must be finalized before staff departs school on Thursday. For those students that I know are changing levels at semester time, I will do my best to have their grade as updated as possible.

Students were given a review worksheet today that was mostly completed in class. Attached is an additional summary of the unit and some sample problems to be worked. There will be no work required in order to be eligible to take the test. Download Review for Definition of Derivatives and Differentiability

The Math 2 End of Course Test will be given during class on Wednesday, December 14th (Part 1) and Thursday, December 15th (Part 2). This cumulative exam covers the entire Math 2 curriculum/book, and will count 15% of the Accelerated Math 2 total grade. While individual questions on the EOCT are not particularly difficult, what makes this test hard is that it covers an entire book -- with topics that were started back in February in Accelerated Math 1 and not finished until December in Accelerated Math 2. Just over a month ago students were given the Test Prep workbook which comes with their Math 2 textbook, which lists each of the 51 standards for the regular Math 2 course and gives five practice multiple-choice questions for each. Directions were to select two problems minimally from each standard to work as a review, doing more of the problems if worked incorrectly or standards were difficult. This workbook was to be finished by last Wednesday, December 7th. In addition, students received practice chapter reviews each day last week, as we combined individual standards together to begin final preparations for the EOCT. Answers to these chapter reviews are below:
Chapter 1 Answers:
1) B 2) C 3) B 4) C 5) B 6) D 7) D 8) A 9) C 10) D 11) A 12) A 13) D

Attached is the key to the Related Rates test. Students received a "copy" of their test and we went over the solutions in class. Students basically "self-graded" their tests which is a good process for self-reflection and analysis of their work. I have the originals and asked those students that liked their outcome to let me know as I would grade and record their test. Scores will not be recorded for those students that did not request their test be graded. This is especially so since the 1st retest will be given on Tuesday morning. Since test corrections are typically required for eligibility and students now have access to the solutions, test corrections will not be necessary. However, students will have the opportunity to work new questions on Monday during class in a timed format to help further assist with their understanding and efficiency. In addition to learning 1 new concept on Optimization, we will begin the relearning/recovery/retest process. A student/parent contract will be handed out to students on Monday, 12/5, and MUST be returned Tuesday, 12/6. The following dates and times for the retest are listed below. If you miss this date/time regardless of illness, doctor's appointments, work schedule, etc., there will be NO OTHER opportunities to retest on that unit/concept.
Tuesday, 12/6/11 @7:20 AM – Differentiation Rules
Wednesday, 12/7/11 during 7th Period or immediately after school – Particle Motion
Friday, 12/9/11 @7:20 AM – Implicit Differentiation (This is the first retest – test corrections are required!)
Tuesday, 12/13/11 @7:20 AM – Related Rates (This is the first retest – test corrections are required!)
Wednesday, 12/14/11 during 7th period or immediately after school – Definition of a Derivative
Friday, 12/16/11 @7:20 AM – Limits and Continuity

11/10: Today we learned how to find the Median-Median line using the regression in our graphing calculators and also by hand
11/11: Continue working on finding the Median-Median line using only a scientific calculatorand fitting the best model for a given set of data using the regression capabilities in the graphing calculator. HW: Math II book - p 250: 3-6, 13; p253: 10, 13-14; p281: 1-7 and p282: 1-3, 5-7.
12/1: Collect your river data tonight so your are ready to share with the class tomorrow. You should actually have 7 lists of data but only put 6 in your calculator: L1 - Simple Random Sample; L2 - Vertical Stratified Sample; L3 - Horizontal Stratified Sample; L4 - Simple Random Sample (with irrigation); L5 - Vertical Statified Sample (with irrigation); L6 - Horizontal Stratified Sample (with irrigation) TI-Nspire USERS: to get to the random integer feature on your calculator - just type RANDINT(1,10,1) This will generate 1 random integer between 1 and 10.
12/2: Attached are the sheets filled out today with everyone's data. Download your class data and create box& whiskers plots and histograms for each of the two sampling methods assigned during class. Download 2nd Period River Data Download 3rd Period River Data Download 6th Period River Data
