FRENCH 3 - Today in class we practiced making sentences with the verbs from yesterday (irregular past participles - set 2); learned the last set of irregular past participles (which I will add below); continued with the listening comprehension from TV5; and practiced with the vocabulary (practice for tomorrow's quiz). Please be prepared to take tomorrow's quiz over the vocabulary we have studied to date and remember the SPELLING COUNTS!

FRENCH 3 - Today in class we finished the reading comprehension presentations (informal); presented the pictures; made a graphic organizer for the second set of irregular past participles; and worked on a listening comprehension/current event activity. IF YOU WERE ABSENT I am attaching the handout for the second set of irregular past participles. We did the same thing we did with the first set. If you have questions don't hesitate to email or come see me at the beginning of class. YOU HAVE A VOCABULARY QUIZ ON THURSDAY. SPELLING COUNTS!

AP - Aujourd'hui en classe nous avons fait des rémues-méninges (brainstorms) des 5 problèmes les plus importants dans le monde à l'heure actuelle; fait un autre rémue-méninge du vocabulaire de l'environnement; discuté un peu le vocabulaire; et regardé (sans son) le clip de la chanson "Respire" du groupe Mickey 3D. Pour demain: Ecrivez 1 ou 2 paragraphes (minimum 100 mots). Vous pouvez regarder de nouveau le clip chez vous (c'est à YouTube) mais je vous demande de regarder sans son et de ne pas rechercher les paroles. Racontez ce qui se passe; interprétez le message du clip; et donnez-en votre appréciation personnelle.

FRENCH 3 - Today in class we described a picture of a beach resort; talked about what we did over the weekend; practiced vocabulary from last week; and worked on reading comprehension. IF YOU WERE ABSENT please complete activities 3 and 4 on page 5 of the textbook and read pages 6 & 7. I also handed back the vocabulary quizzes. If you got an 11 or below (out of 15) you may correct your papers. You must follow these directions in order to get any credit:

• Copy each term you got wrong 5 times each
• Underline or highlight the part of the term you got wrong
• Turn it in no later than the end of class on 8/30
• You get .5 point for each correction (series of 5)

FRENCH 3 - Today we talked about what we did last night; took a pop quiz :) ; learned new vocabulary about winter sports resorts; and made a graphic organizer for verbs with irregular past participles. If you were absent today please see me to get the handouts and get together with a friend at the beginning of class to copy what they added to the information. For those of you who were present, if you did not have time to write down the meanings of the verbs with irregular past participles I have copied them below. I do not have any activities specifically for these verbs; I will add a couple of general ones tomorrow.

• rire = to laugh  (J'ai ri à la plaisanterie.)
• sourire= to smile (J'ai souri au beau garçon.)
• suivre = to follow (J'ai suivi le beau garçon à sa prochaine classe.)
• mettre = to put/to place (J'ai mis mes livres sur la table.)
• permettre = to permit/to allow (Ma mère m'a permis de sortir avec mes amis.)
• prendre = to take (J'ai pris le bus à l'école.)
• apprendre = to learn (J'ai appris le français en classe.)
• comprendre = to understand (J'ai compris Mme quand elle a parlé français.)
• dire = to say/to tell (J'ai dit à mon ami de venir à ma fête.)
• écrire = to write (J'ai écrit des notes en classe.)
• conduire = to drive (J'ai conduit ma voiture à la plage.)
• construire = to construct/to build (J'ai construit un château de sable.)

FRENCH 3 - Today in class we reviewed yesterday's vocabulary; worked a little on pronunciation; learned some new vocabulary; and listened to a really goofy song! If you were absent today please try to get the words from a friend. I told my classes that I'm feeling a little "pop quizzy." I don't know if I'm coming down with something - but you need to be prepared! Study the vocabulary from Monday and Tuesday in order to be successful!

I'm adding a little more practice for passé composé. Please take advantage of this opportunity!

AP FRENCH - Please make sure that the 4 actors/actresses are working on the dialogue (I would greatly appreciate props to facilitate comprehension). I will want to see a dress rehearsal before the big day. The other 4 people need to be working on finding some audio, articles and at least one song to share with the French 3 students. Once you have found these items please try to create a vocabulary activity to do before listening/reading to facilitate comprehension.

FRENCH 3 - Today in class we started on the vocabulary for our first unit about vacations. I gave seven vocabulary terms for you to learn for tomorrow. I don't mean to memorize them long enough to do a multiple choice quiz. I mean review them and try to use them in sentences/conversation and learn the spelling. Accent marks are part of the spelling! You should spend at least 15 minutes a day reviewing the vocabulary in order to be able to use it. We also reviewed the formation of the passé composé. I am attaching a couple of practice activities below. If you were absent you need to get together with a friend at the beginning of class tomorrow to get the notes.

French 3 - Today in class we talked about a cat with a melon/lime/something on its head; played a game with verb conjugations; and got textbooks. For the people in 7th period who did not get a book, don't worry - you will get one as soon as they arrive! On Monday we will get started with the first unit in the book.

AP - Please complete the reading comprehension activity I gave you today. I would like for those to be completed by the end of class on Monday.

General Announcements: I have decided to create a page of current events highlighting the importance of foreign language in general and French in particular. I have (very cleverly, I think) named the page: Current Events - Study of Foreign Language. I will let you know in my daily post when I upload a new article. I encourage you all (students and parents) to read these articles so that you are aware of hiring trends in this very difficult job market.

French 3 - Today we worked on pronunciation, greetings and the difference between être and avoir. We took some notes so if you were absent please get those from a friend or come see before class. We also practiced using être and avoir. I am attaching that handout in case you were absent.Download être vs avoir

Today in class students wrote dialogues using a photograph from "Water for Elephants" as a springboard. We also watched a movie trailer for "Water for Elephants" and discussed the meanings of some of the phrases. The last part of the class period we continued with the personal presentations.

For Thursday, we will work on some of the common errors I have heard in the presentations as well as pronunciation. Hopefully we will finish the presentations and have time to play a quick game.

Welcome back to school!

Please note that there are student responsibilities for each day of class:

• Have pen/pencil and paper
• Engage in what we are doing in class. If the activity is to speak to someone, I expect you to speak to someone. I understand that some people are shy; I'm one of them! Take this as an opportunity to face your challenges and overcome them.
• If I write things on the board, it's a good idea for you to write them, too. I don't expect you to copy everything word for word but you need to engage in the vocabulary by writing it down, hearing it, reading it and speaking it in order for it to become yours.
• Have an open mind. The more you can learn about what makes people from other cultures tick, the more marketable you are!

For tomorrow: Review the vocabulary we discussed in class today. We will do a warm-up activity using some of the words from today and the better prepared you are the more you will get out of it. Also, if you have not finished your presentation FINISH IT! :)
