Access Class instructional focus for December 2011

1.  News2You - Topics include Happy Feet II, Christmas Tree Ship, The Nutcracker, The X Factor.

GPS Language Arts - ELA11R1c; DAP recognizing information on a chart;

Essential Question - Where is the story of the week located?  Is this city near or far from Marietta, GA?

2.  Social Studies – American Government /Civics - SSCG7  Learn the basic principles of citizenship (continue unit started in November)

Essential Question - What would happen if people did not obey laws?

Social Studies – US and Canadian holiday traditions – SSWGe

Essential Question – How do holiday traditions vary between where we live and in Canada?

3.  Microeconomics – Product market, Resource market and the flow of goods and services

GPS Economics – SSEMI1a (Basic Economics)

Essential Question – How does the farmer get his crops to market?

4.  Solute, Solvents and Solutions

Essential Question – Can you identify solutes and solvents from a group of ingredients?

5. Collecting Data

GPS MA2D1a - surveying and organizing information from two different groups (surveying Lassiter math teachers)

Essential Question -  How many years have you been teaching?, How many years have you been at Lassiter? What type of degree do you have? Did you go to college in Georgia?

Thankfest

We are truly thankful for our school, friends and teachers. Today, we prepared our lunch and ate together in our classroom. Next week we are out of school and then 3 weeks until the winter break.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thankfest this week

We are reading in News2You about the Leonid meteor shower that is happening until 11/21 in the night skys.  If you have a chance, let me know if you are able to see the shower.

Thursday, is our class thankfest.  We will be preparing the meal most of the morning and then eating together and remembering all our blessings. 

I hope everyone has a restful Thanksgiving break next week.

Permission to film

Coming home today is a permission form to film your student during an instructional activity.  Our class has been selected to be filmed for lessons to be shown to new teachers, kind of a “how to” align to the standards in an Access Classroom.  Please sign the form and return.  Any student without a signed form will have to be pulled out of the classroom during the filming.

Thankfest letter

Coming home today, is a letter about our Thankfest on Thursday, November 17th.  Each year, we prepare our lunch to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.  We ask that each student bring one item used to prepare our luncheon.  Please send in your item by Tuesday, November 15th.  Thank you again for your support of our class programs.

CBI on Monday, November 7th

Due to the school holiday next Tuesday, we are going on CBI a day earlier.  We will be at Sprayberry High School Cosmetology Department and then going to McDonald's for lunch.  Please send money for your student's lunch.  As always, if you would prefer to send a sack lunch that is fine.
