Cooking

Today, we measured and mixed up some tasty chocolate chip pancakes.  We also used a bar graph to visualize who liked which type of pancakes. 

Tomorrow, we start our campus based vocational training program.  We watched a movie about the characteristics of a good worker and will begin working in the football field house, guidance office and the book room on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Week of 8/22/11

Today we started vocational training first period.  Each day, students will be working either in the cafeteria, guidance office or book room, practicing skills they will need for supportive employment after high school.

We are ready about the Women's World Cup this past summer.  We made the healthy recipe by cutting fresh fruit, stirring and serving.  Everyone was encouraged to use their good table manners and each student completed a recipe review that is coming home in their book bag today.

Literacy this week

We have been reading about vacation locations and the important geography, activities and history of several American cities and states.  We read about Alaska, New York City, and the Smokey Mountains.  Hawaii and Philadelphia are on tap for the rest of the week.  I hope your student is enjoying these short stories.  Next week we will start our regular News2You weekly units.

First Day

Everyone did a great job today.  We welcomed two new classmates, completed a scavanger hunt in the building, walked the track and made a healthy smoothie.  The lunch room is very crowded, but we were able to all select something we liked and find a table to enjoy lunch with friends.  What a great way to start the new year!

We will be out front waiting for your student to return to Lassiter on Monday, August 15th.  With all the construction this year, please be patient if their bus runs a little late occassionally.  On the summer letter, it listed all the supplies that your student will need on Monday.  Please make sure you also send the sharing sack so we can get to know your student better.  Picutres will be returned promptly.  There will be a lot of new information coming home with your student next week.  Please remember to check their folder each day and return any school forms that are included.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
