Photography

Photo A students are rotating between: working on their book, on computer learning GIMP, or shooting a class digital assignment.

Photo C students have a photojournalism assignment they are working on and are in the process of editing the goat skull. We will be shooting a skeleton this week also.

AP students are viewing professional photographer's work and then will be deciding on a digital assignment. Their second choice project and balance are due today.

 

Ceramics

Ceramics A students are finishing the pierced candleholder and then beginning an advanced mold pot using leaves. It is a nice fall piece. We will then move on to slab boxes which will challenge the students.

Advanced Ceramics - The students are progressing on the wheel. Most can center and raise their walls and still have it on center. We will be doing mugs this week with them learning how to "pull" a handle.

 

Comprehensive Art

Students have planned out two patterns to be repeated in their paper relief project and are now in the process of drawing them into a grid on their final paper. The next step is to cut out each design with an xacto knife. The designs are very nice and the products will be great.

Comprehensive Art

Comprehensive Art will be spending today, Monday, on their early finisher project while some finish their ribbon project. We will then begin a paper sculpture project. Designs are cut out of a cover board and different colors are placed behind the cut out areas. Look for them in a week or so.

 

Photography

Photography A students have their lighting assignment due today. We are in the process of printing out and displaying some of their photos. I am meeting with each student this week individually to review and offer suggestions on improving their photo skills. In class, we are rotating between a digital assignment, working on the photo books, reviewing photos with the teacher, and beginning editing in GIMP on the computers.

Photo C - Students received another digital assignment to be shot outside of class. These were chosen at random from slips of paper and will be due next Monday. In class, students are editing and printing out photos for display as well as beginning a photojournalism assignment.

AP Photo - Students received a digital assignment which they need to be shooting and/or editing in class.

Ceramics

Ceramcis students are now busy glazing their pots when they reach completion on their pierced candleholder. When I have enough to fire the kiln, we will have our first glaze firing. The Ceramics A students will move on to an advanced mold pot using leaves. It is a very nice fall project.

Advanced Ceramics students are progressing on the potter's wheel. Students are still practicing centering and raising the clay.

Photography

 
Photo A students have their elements and principles photos due today. We will begin the process of printing out a few of their best photos this week. Students will begin a rotation in class of shooting a class assignment or working on their photo books. The books are made and now students are ready for photos, artwork, and quotes.

Advanced Photo students will receive a photojournalism assignment today.

As you can see, the students are showing evidence of our first assignments of rule of thirds, worm's eye view, and bird's eye view.
 
 

 

Ceramics

Both kilns were fired last week and we will continue to fire again two times this week. When enough coil pots have been fired, students will begin glazing. Ceramics A students are working with a soft slab pot and textures. They felt a bit overwhelmed in the beginning but now are quite pleased with their projects. The students have learned how to use the slab roller and will begin another slab project this week. We will be working on a candleholder and the piercing technique which is cutting out negative areas in the clay.

Advanced Ceramics students - Most students are currently on the potter's wheels and advancing quite well.

Comprehensive Art

This week students will be shading their ribbon enlargements. The majority of the students have successfully enlarged their design and are shading with either pencil or colored pencil now. It is a tedious process and many are learning patience!
