Honors British Lit.- Today in class we finished Edward Scissorhands. Turn

in your completed video guide questions tomorrow. Be sure to focus on the Romantic elements of the movie since we are looking at this as a modern version of Shelley's Frankenstein. Remember our considerations: the role of creator and his/her creation; the importance of family and friends; the effects of guit/shame; the importance of nature and the natural world.

Also, the Romanticism/Victorian poem project was introduced today. Students were placed in groups and chose a poem and started planning the presentation. Groups will have tomorrow and Thursday in class and Friday in the computer lab to finalize their presentations due Monday. The assignment is attached:

Vocabulary Lesson 9 packets were also turned in today! Be ready for your quiz on Monday!

 

9th Honors Lit - Monday 1/30

Today groups began to assemble their movie presentations during class. Each student recieved a vocabulary lesson 9 handout which will need to be handed in tomorrow for a grade. Remember that you do not have to do exercises IV or V, but everything else should be completed.

Tomorrow we will be finalizing the presentations so students will need a flash drive on which to save their presentations.  *Make sure that you test the file out on a computer on campus to make sure the presentation with work on our system.  Plus it is always wise and professional to practice a presentation before it is time to present. 

On Wednesday students will need their presentation on a flash drive and a printed copy of their group essay.

Romeo and Juliet:

If you are planning to buy the Cliff'sComplete version of Romeo and Juliet, please have a copy by Tuesday, February 7th.  Please look to the previous 9th grade post for a link to Amazon.com and a picture of the book.

Honors British Lit.- We continued watching "Edward Scissorhands" today as

a modern day reference to our discussion and the book excerpt "Introduction to Frankenstein" from Mary Shelley. Students continued answering questions on the film analysis hand out.

H.W.- Vocabulary Lesson 9 exercises- Complete Ex. I and Identifying Sentence Errors and Improving Sentences. Also, create 10 original sentences for 10 of the 15 words!

Reminder: Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen (annotated version by David M. Shepard) due Friday, 2/3.

Honors 9th Lit.- Students worked on poetry projects today! There will be

access to computers on Monday and Tuesday and presentations are due Wed, 2/1.

Students have the option to purchase their own copy of Romeo and Juliet. We are suggesting the Cliff's Complete version with helpful notes and commentary. Also, students would not have to carry their literature books with them during this time and more importantly, students can write notes and annotate in their own books! Honors 9th Lit.- Today we discussed concluding thoughts on yesterday's

Today we finalized some thoughts from the socratic seminar over "If we Must Die" by Claude McKay and reviewed the poetry project rubric and due date (Wed., 2/1). We also viewed an image to a poem and discussed ideas in reference to students' own poetry project images.

Honors British Lit.- The class discussed their ideas and prior knowledge of

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Although we are not reading this book as part of our study of the Romantic Movement, we will be doing a few activities in reference to the novel. Today we read Shelley's introduction to (and explanation of how she created) Frankenstein. The introduction and background on Shelley is on pg. 758. We read and answered the questions on pg. 765, #s 2,3,4,5, and 7 and discussed in detail.

As a modern reference to Frankenstein we will be watching Edward Scissorhands and completing a film analysis starting tomorrow.

Honors British Lit.- Students shared the TPFASST for Shelley's "Mutability" in

small groups and created questions (varied levels) to ask the class. The classed discussed the poem in detail.

Honors 9th Lit.- Final three word photos due tomorrow! These should be

typed and show some evidence of revision from the peer edit and teacher comments. Today we read "The Raven" on pg. 710 and completed the graphic organizer given in class. Students also created two questions for the poem- one "level 1" comprehension question and one "level 3"  high level question.
