Formative Assessment

Formative Assessments are valuable teaching tools for student learning and achievement. The purpose of formative assessments is to constantly "check for understanding" with the students as instruction begins and evolves during a unit of learning. If done well, formative assessments can give students an understanding of where they are in terms of learning the knowledge but more importantly, it gives them specific next steps for what they need to do show mastery of that unit or standard.
