9th Honors - Wednesday, November 30th

The Fiction Book project is OPTIONAL.  If you need it to improve your grade, do it.  If you do not need it, don't do it.

We had time in the computer lab to work on the Mini-Research Paper.  If you were absent, you should be working on it at home.  Outlines are due tomorrow.

This is NOT the 9^th Grade list!  This is for British Literature Honors!

1.    Rancor  – noun – extreme hatred or ill will

Syn: animosity; enmity    Ant: amity; sympathy

 

2.    Inexorable - adj – unrelenting; unavoidable

Syn: relentless, certain     Ant: avoidable; preventable

 

3.    Extol – verb – to praise highly

Syn: exalt; laud    Ant: chastise

 

4.    Clement  – adj – merciful; lenient

Syn: forbearing; benign  Ant: malevolent; harsh

 

5.    Cliché  – noun – a worn out idea or overused expression

Syn: platitude; banality

 

6.    Adamant – adj – unyielding; firm in opinion

7.    Diffident – adj – lacking in self-confidence; shy

British Literature Honors - Tuesday, November 29th

We started a research paper today.  It is a shortened version of what a typical research paper would be.  If you use your class time wisely, you should finish most of it in class and only have a few hours of homework to complete it.  Directions are attached to this page:

Graded papers were returned today, including graded vocabulary packets.  If you were absent, see me upon your return to receive yours.

Vocabulary #5 quiz is one week from today, Tuesday 12/5.

NOTE: Plagiarism of any kind on the research paper will result in a grade of zero for a major grade.  That zero could cause a person to fail the semester. 

NOTE: It is due on 12/12/11.  If you are traveling with the band, you must have your paper in on 12/12/11.  You may have it delivered to the school by a friend or relative, you may put it in my teacher mailbox, or you may give it to me early.   You may not email it.  Printing it is your responsibility.  Late papers will have 20% of points deducted per day for up to 3 days.  After 12/15, papers will not be accepted at all.

 

9th Honors - Tuesday, November 29th

Notice:  Because so many students were out today for a field trip, and were unable to receive their graded Vocab. Packets, the Vocab. #5 Quiz has been moved to Monday, December 5th.

Fiction Books:  There is no project.  You will take an in-class test similar to the one you took for your nonfiction book.  This test will be Friday, December 16th.  Finish your book by then.

We had so many people absent today, due to a field trip, that I did not want to start The Odyssey without them.  We had a reading day.  If you were out, you only missed reading time and receiving your graded Vocab #5 packet.  See me when you return to get that packet.

This quiz will be Friday, December 2nd.  You will receive your graded packets tomorrow.  If you want to begin studying, here are the words:

9th Honors - Monday, November 28th

We looked at How To books, How To Magazines, and wrote a How-To.  If you were absent, choose something you know how to do.  Make a list of materials and steps.  (Sample topics: How to survive your freshman year, how to wrap a gift, how to apply make-up, how to make a free throw, etc)

 

British Literature Honors - Monday, November 28th

We read, and discussed, Chapters 4 and 5.  If you were absent, read these chapters.  Your assignment between now and the beginning of class on Thursday is to read all of Chapters 6 and 7.  We are in the Writing Lab for the next two school days, starting something new.
