British Literature Unit #5

This is NOT the 9^th Grade list!  This is for British Literature Honors!

1.    Bigot  – noun – one who is intolerant of differences in others

Syn: racist, extremist   

 

2.    Expunge - verb – to erase or eliminate

Syn: obliterate

 

3.    Candid – outspoken; blunt

Syn: frank, direct    Ant: evasive

 

4.    Argot – noun – special words or phrases used by a specific group of people

Syn: jargon

 

5.    Negligence – noun – careless neglect, often resulting in injury

Syn: carelessness    Ant: care, attention

 

6.    Appease – verb – to calm; to make satisfied (often only temporarily)

Syn: mollify    Ant: aggravate

 

7.    Strident – adj – harsh sounding; grating

Syn: shrill   Ant: soothing

 

8.    Chaos – noun – complete disorder

Syn: confusions, jumble   Ant: order, harmony

 

9.    Augment – verb – to enlarge; to increase in amount or intensity

Syn: expand, supplement    Ant: narrow, reduce

 

10. Jingoism – noun – extreme, chauvinistic patriotism, often favoring an aggressive, warlike foreign policy

9th Honors - Monday, October 31st

We had a work day.  The nonfiction book test is tomorrow, and projects are due on Friday, November 4th.  Bring your book with you to class tomorrow.  You will need it for the test.

If you were absent, there is no new work.

British Literature Honors - Monday, October 31st

Today was the LAST day to turn in Macbeth worksheets.  If you were absent and have any worksheets that have not been turned in, you must get them to me first thing in the morning.

The rest of the time was a work day in both the lab and the classroom.  Tomorrow is NOT a work day.  Wednesday is a work day, but we will not have access to the lab on that day.

Your Vocabulary Quiz #4 is this Thursday, November 3rd.  This quiz will be cumulative, like previous quizzes.  It will have at least one word from each of the previous units.  Graded packets were returned last week.

British Literature Honors - Friday, October 28th

Today was a work day in the classroom and in the lab.  If you were absent, there is no new work to make up.

NOTE: ALL Macbeth worksheets are due at the end of the period on Monday, October 31st.

9th Honors Literature - Thursday, October 27th

4th and 5th periods got back their The Hunger Games papers.  (7th got theirs last week.)  We went over several things about commonly made errors on the papers.  If you were absent, see me for your paper.

We graded the Vocab. Unit #4 packers and talked about commonly made errors.

If you were absent, there is no new work to make up.

British Literature Honors - Thursday, October 27th

We watched several film clips from different movie versions of the play.  This was to spark creativity and ideas for your projects.  If you were absent, there is no make-up work.  Tomorrow is a classroom and computer lab work day.  Use your time wisely.

9th Honors - Wednesday, October 26th

I was out and there was a substitute.  Students had a day to read nonfiction books and work on nonfiction projects.

9th Honors - Tuesday, October 25th

We took the Benchmark test mandated by the county.  If you would like to make this up, there will be a one-time-only make-up session held on Friday morning at 7:30.  (10/28)

Students were given time after the benchmark to read or work on their nonfiction projects.

Tomorrow is a reading and work day.  Bring your nonfiction book and materials to work on your project.  The book test is next Tuesday the 1st of November and your project is due Friday, November 4th.  Both are major grades.
