Thursday, March 31st - Honors

In Romeo and Juliet, we read from Act 3 Scene 2 through Act 3 Scene 4 - pages 825-835 in my classroom set of books and pages 870-882 in your issued textbook.

We added these definitions to the Terms Sheet:

blank verse (#2) - poetry written in unrhymed iambic pentameter

iambic pentameter (#9) - most common meter in English verse - contains 5 iambic feet

iambic meter (foot) (#8) - measure of meter in poetry containing one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable

Act Two Questions turned in today.  Act Three Questions given out; please start on them.  If you were absent, you can get them from the list to the left or see me for a copy.

Thursday, March 31st - College Prep

In Romeo and Juliet, we read from Act 1 Scene 5 through Act 2 Scene 2 Line 61 - pages 787-798 in my classroom set of books and pages 824-839 in your issued textbook.

Wednesday, March 30th - HONORS

We read Act 2 Scene 4- Act 3 Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet.  If you were absent, you need to do this reading.  It's pages 805-825 in my classroom set of books and pages 847-870 in your issued textbook.  Finish your Act 2 Question Sheet tonight and have it to turn in at the beginning of class tomorrow.

I gave the major grade assignment instructions for the Romeo and Juliet Reading Response Logs.  You can access them from the list on the left or see me for a copy.  This is due Monday, April 18th.

Wednesday, March 30th - COLLEGE PREP

The "Perfect Mate" worksheet was collected.  If you were absent, turn yours in when you return to school.

We read Act 1 Scene 2 - Act 1 Scene 4 of Romeo and Juliet.  If you were absent, you need to do this reading.  It's pages 778-786 in my class set of books and pages 815-824 in your issued textbook.

Tuesday, March 29th - COLLEGE PREP

Today we started Shakespeare and his play Romeo and Juliet.  We started by reading some handouts about why Shakespeare is important and how life was in the 1600's.  I have a class set of these; you may read one while in class when you return.

I gave out "The Perfect Mate" assignment.  The document of the same title is located in the list to the left or you may see me for a copy.

We read all of the Prologue, Act One Scene One.  This is pages 771-778 in my class set of green books and pages 806-815 in your issued textbook.  If you were absent, be sure to read this section of the play.

I gave a Terms Sheet for Romeo and Juliet.  In the list to the left it is called "Romeo and Juliet Terms Sheet."  You can get it there or see me for a copy.

We added these words to the Romeo and Juliet Terms Sheet:

#7 figuratuve language: writing or speech not meant to be interpreted literally - often used to create vivid impressions by setting up comparisons between dissimilar things

#16 symbol: anthing that stands for or represents something else

#19 motivation: a reason that explains (or partially explains) why a character thinks, acts, feels, or behaves a certain way

Tuesday, March 29th - HONORS

Vocabulary Packets (Unit #12) that were not finished yesterday were collected.

We read Act Two Prologue, Scene One, Scene Two, and Scene Three.  This is pages 795-805 in my classroom set of books and pages 835-847 in your issued textbook.  If you were absent, read these scenes.  I gave the Act Two worksheet and students had time to begin working on it.  You should have been able to answer questions 1-14.  If you were absent, you can get it from the list on the left or see me for a copy.

I was out today and there was a sub.  All classes, both Honors and College Prep, did Vocab. Packet #12.  If you were absent, see me for a copy.

Friday, March 25th - HONORS

We took the Vocabulary #11 Quiz.  If you were absent, you need to come make it up some morning next week (not Monday).

We watched a biographical video about Shakespeare.  If you were absent, you should google him and read about his life.

Act One questions were collected.

Friday, March 25th - COLLEGE PREP

We took the test for The Odyssey.  If you were absent, you need to come in some morning next week (not Monday) and make it up.

If you have not already turned in your take home Vocabulary #11 quiz, it is due on Monday, 3/28.

We finished all of Act One of Romeo and Juliet.  Pages 784-791 in my classroom set of books and pages 821-830 in your issued textbook.  Finish Act One questions and turn them in tomorrow if you did not already turn them in today.
