9th Honors Literature - Monday, January 31st

We started Romeo and Juliet today.  We started class with a packet of articles to get us ready for reading.  If you were absent, see me to borrow a copy to read.  I do not have them electronically to post here.

We read the Prologue and the first half of Act One Scene One.  If you were absent, you need to read this for makeup work.  The play is in the textbook you have at home.

Students are doing the "Student Form" of the "Perfect Mate" activity, and taking it to their parents for them to complete the "Parent Form."  If you were absent, download it here or see me for a copy:

British Literature Honors - Monday, January 30th

Today we started Sense and Sensibility.  I gave the students a character sheet to fill out as we read.  If you were absent, download one here or see me for a copy.

We read and discussed the Notes to the Reader on page xvii.  We read Chapter One and Chapter Two together, and discussed each.  We paid particular attention to these annotations: 5 and 7 on page 3, 17 on page 19, and 24 and 25 on page 21. If you were absent, you need to do this reading.

Read Chapter 3 for homework.  Your "Kubla Khan" writing assignment is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.

9th Honors - Friday, January 27th

Your Group Poems are FABULOUS!  I am so pleased and proud!

We took the Poetry Test and it took the entire period.  If you were absent, you need to schedule a time to come make it up.  You can come before school, but you will want to start no later than 7:15.  You can come during your lunch period, and eat your lunch in my room, but clear it with me first so I know you are coming.

No homework.

British Literature Honors - Friday, January 27th

"Kubla Khan" writing due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, 1/31.  It does not have to be typed and you only have to do ONE set of questions.  Be sure to answer in complete sentences.

9th Honors - Thursday, January 26th

Poetry Search assignments were collected.  If you were absent, please turn this in upon your return.

We did a group poetry project that will be graded.  If you were absent, you do need to make this up on your own.  You do not have to do it on poster paper; you can use regular paper.  Your "random words" for this assignment are cherry, loud, playground, serious, and cold.  See instructions here:

Groups had time to work.  Presentations will be tomorrow.  If you were here yesterday and absent today, check in with your group.  If you were absent yesterday and today, see the post from yesterday for makeup work.

"Mariner" assignment is due tomorrow at the beginning of class.  "Kubla Khan" writing is due next Tuesday, 1/31.

 

9th Honors - Wednesday, January 25th

We read Edgar Allan Poe's poems "The Bells" and "The Raven."  If you were absent, you need to read both of these for makeup work.  "The Bells" is on page 930 of the books in my room and page 654 of the book you have at home.  "The Raven" is on page 940 of my classroom textbook and page 710 of your issued book.

We watched a video related to "The Raven."

Remember that your Poetry Search is due at the beginning of class tomorrow, and your Poetry Test is Friday 1/27.

We took the Vocabulary #8 Quiz.  You can come make that up before school, during ASE (caution: my ASE is loud), or during 4th or 5th lunch.  I am not available 3rd or 6th.  You could also take it right after school this Thursday 1/26.  (I am not available after school on Wed. or Fri.)

I gave this definition of perfect rhyme to be added to your Poetry Terms sheet.

Perfect Rhyme - A perfect rhyme - also called a full rhyme, exact rhyme, or true rhyme - is when the latter part of the word or phrase is identical sounding to another.  A perfect rhyme begins with a different sound and ends with the same.

Examples: pie/ die   like/bike   fed/bed   name/game   hope/cope   book/look

I answered any remaining questions about the Poetry Search, which is due at the beginning of class on Thursday, January 26th for a major grade.  If you need access to a Lassiter computer to finish this project, you can come to me before school or during ASE.  You can also come during 4th or 5th lunch.  There is also the option of getting a Media Center Pass during your lunch period.
