American Literature Tuesday 8/30

Today, students read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" (pg. 85) by Jonathan Edwards.  Students reflected on how the Puritan core beliefs were exemplified through this sermon.  After reading, students worked on a handout.  In this handout, students were to identify quotes that reflect each Puritan core belief in the acronym T.U.L.I.P.  Students also identified the rhetorical strategies employed by Edwards and answered questions using their knowledge of the text and various literary devices.  Students will have an opportunity to complete this handout in class after their vocabulary quiz.

Today, students continued working on the Flood Archetypes partner projects.  Students will present these PowerPoints in class tomorrow.  They must present their presentations on a flashdrive!

Today, students took Cornell Notes on an Introduction to Puritans PowerPoint Presentation. Click on the file below to view the PowerPoint. Students completed and turned in their Vocabulary Lesson 2 Packets and studied for their vocabulary quiz on Wednesday.

World Literature Flood Archetype Assignment

1. With your partner, research a flood myth from one of the following civilizations.  Make sure to fill out the web page evaluation checklist.

~Chinese

~Native American

~Anglo Saxon

~African

~any other civilization that interests you (except Hebrew and Babylonian)

2.  Create a PowerPoint presentation on your chosen flood myth.  Your presentation must include:

~At least 5 slides

~One slide must be an introduction slide

~At least 3 visual images

~At least one sound clip

~A brief historical background of your chosen civilization

~A brief summary of the flood myth

~A list of at least 5 similarities and 5 differences between your chosen myth and the Hebrew and Babylonian myths

3.  You must save your presentation to a flashdrive.  You will present you PowerPoint to the class and turn in your Web Page Evaluation sheet.  This is for a grade!
