American Literature Tuesday 5/17

Today, students continued reading and discussing The Great Gatsby, and they also watched the film.

Reminders:  Students must dress up as their assigned character on Thursday 5/19 for the Gatsby Party.  Please remember to bring in the food or paper/plastic product from the sign-up list.

Today students received their final exam study guides and they completed it during class.  Students must study the material on this guide, in order to be successful on the final exam.

Today, students took their Vocabulary Test over lessons 8-14.  Students also continued reading and discussing The Great Gatsby.

Students continued reading The Great Gatsby in class.  Students also took their End of Course Tests on Thursday and Friday.  This test accounts for 15% of each student's overall grade.

American Literature Thursday 5/5

Today, we took Vocabulary Quiz 12 and worked on Vocabulary Packets 13 and 14, which are due Monday 5/9.  Students also received their The Marrow of Tradition chapters 16-20 journal topics (listed below).  These are due in class tomorrow.  Students should begin reading The Marrow of Tradition, chapters 21-30.  These chapters should be read by next Wednesday 5/11.

Journal Prompts:

Write a paragraph (5-7 sentences each) responding to each journal prompt.  Give specific examples from the text to support your opinion.

1.  How do you explain Sandy seeing his own “ha’nt” (ghost)?

2.  Who do you think murdered Polly Ochiltree?  Explain.
