American Literature Wednesday 3/30

Today, we worked in the computer lab, writing the introduction to our research paper.  Students should keep in mind that Mrs. Kappel and Mrs. Crandall are available before school and during lunch, by appointment only, to offer guidance on the research paper writing process.  Resources to guide students in writing the paper can also be found on the blog.  We have posted a PowerPoint to guide students in writing an effective introduction.  Students were also given a study guide with listed material that will appear on the Realism test.  Tomorrow, we will review for the test extensively.  Extra study materials will be posted to the blog after class tomorrow.

Ninth Lit/Comp Wednesday 3/30

Today, we worked in the computer lab, writing our introductions, thesis statements, and topic sentences for the Epic Hero paper, which is due at the end of class on Friday, April 1, 2011.  By now, students should have completed their Epic Hero Quotes handout.  Students can refer to the Writing and Introduction PowerPoint, which is posted on the blog, for help with writing an effective introduction, along with the sample introduction provided.

Reminders:  $12.00 for "Romeo and Juliet" play, performed at the school by The Shakespeare Tavern, is due by this Friday 4/1

American Literature Tuesday 3/29

Today, we continued conferencing with students about their thesis statements.  Students were given time to continue working on their note cards.  By now, students should have four printed and highlights articles on their perspective topics.  Students worked in the media center and were provided with a range of books and reference materials to support their thesis statements.  These materials can be found on the cart in the front of my classroom from now until the end of the research paper writing process.  Please remember that Mrs. Kappel and Mrs. Crandall are available before school and during lunch (by appointment only) to help students and provide support.  Please refer to the research paper handouts for assignment description, rubric, supportive materials, agendas, and deadlines.

Today, students took a vocabulary quiz over lesson nine vocabulary.  After the quiz, students received their Epic Hero Paper assignment description and rubric.  Students were given time to finish their Epic Hero Quotes handout and began creating thesis statements and topic sentences for their papers.

American Literature Monday 3/28

Today, students were given their research paper assignment description and rubric, along with corresponding supportive handouts.  The research paper is worth fifteen percent each student's overall grade.  Mrs. Crandall and Mrs. Kappel are available, by appointment, in the morning and during lunch to provide extra help.  Thesis Statement conferencing began today, and students were given in-class time to work on their research note cards.  Please refer to the research paper handouts for in-class research agenda and due dates.
