American Literature Thursday 2/17

Today, students reviewed the elements of Realism, Naturalism, and Regionalism, and receiveda chart for review.  Students also began reading "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Bierce Ambrose and worked on a Detail Analysis handout.  Students must be able to recognize which literary movement this story fits into.  We will be finishing this story tomorrow.  ALL STUDENTS MUST BRING THEIR BOOKS!

Ninth Lit/Comp Thursday 2/17

Today, students continued reading Edith Hamilton's "Hercules" and working on their question packet.  These questions must be answered in COMPLETE SENTENCES.  Students will finish the story and the questions in class after the break.  Students are to have their "gods and goddesses" posters in class tomorrow and be ready to present in their learning centers.

American Literature Wednesday 2/16

Today, students went to the writing lab to search for two articles on Cobb Virtual Library that relate to their research topics.  Students must review these articles and highlight any information that is relevant to their topics.  Students are to bring their books to class tomorrow.

Ninth Lit/Comp Wednesday 2/16

Students had the entire class period to work of their "gods and goddesses" project.  Students MUST be ready to present in their learning centers upon arrival to class on Friday 2/18.  Remember:  THIS IS A MAJOR GRADE!

American Literature Tuesday 2/15

Today, students shared their printed articles with their peers.  They discussed the highlighted portions of their articles and worked with their peers to develop narrow topic for their research papers.  These topics will lead the students to write working thesis statements.

Ninth Lit/Comp Tuesday 2/15

Today, students began reading from Edith Hamilton's "Hercules".  We are reading this story as a class and practicing our reading comprehension skills by answering questions in detail and in complete sentences.  We will finish reading this story and answering the questions on Thursday 2/17.  The questions will be turned in for a grade.

Mythology Project Due Friday 2/18

American Literature Monday 2/14

Today, students worked in the writing lab to find article associated with the research questions they have been formulating.  Each student printed one article and highlighted interesting information that they did NOT know about their subject matter.  Students must bring this article to class tomorrow to share with their peers and formulate a narrow research topic.  This topic will lead them to formulate a working thesis statement.

Ninth Lit/Comp Monday 2/14

Today, students were assigned the "gods and goddesses" project for a major grade and conducted research for this project in the writing lab.  Students will work with a partner and research their assigned god or goddess.  They will present a "learning station", using a trifold poster to display facts, stories, origin myths, family trees, pictures, and modern day references.  Students will work on their posters in class on Wednesday 2/16.  STUDENTS MUST HAVE THEIR TRIFOLD BOARDS IN CLASS ON WEDNESDAT 2/16.  Students will complete their projects and present them on Friday 2/18.
