This is Vocab. Week #4.

Monday-Your journal is due.  Quiz today on memoir.

Tuesday-Thursday- "Letter from Birmingham Jail"  We'll do a variety of activities with the "Letter."  Bring it every day.

Wednesday-Class Discussion on "Letter."  Be prepared with highlighted Letter and some items you'd like to discuss.

Friday-quiz on Vocab. #4

Power Point on Lit. Terms is due Monday.  Bring your handouts and make sure your presentation is saved on your student number as well as a back-up such as a flash drive or disk.  You should also email it to yourself as a back-up.

Week of 1/17

Wow!  That was an unexpected week off!   I hope you had a playful time in the snow and that you had plenty of time to read your memoir.  Don't forget that it and your journal are due 1/31.

Vocabulary Week #2.  If you can print a picture of you in the snow and bring it to me on Tuesday, I will add something to your vocab. quiz!

Monday-MLK holiday.  I can't wait for you to read his "Letter from Birmingham Jail" (next week).  You'll understand even more the reason we celebrate this holiday.

Tuesday and Wed.-I had already reserved the computer lab for us for these two days, so we are going to go ahead and get started on a research project.  I'll give you the details Tuesday.

Thursday-We'll do the background for the documentary film and get started.

Friday-Vocab. quiz #2 and film.

Monday-We'll wrap up last week's short story, then talk about the documentary that we will see this week.  I am also going to give you a lit. terms assignment.

Tues.-Thurs-we'll watch the documentary.  I'll give you a packet of things to watch for.

Friday-Vocab quiz #1

Here is how I do vocabulary:  The list for this semester is on the left side of this website; it says "Vocabulary List-2nd Semester."   Print a copy.  Your words for this week are in, of course, Week #1.  You are required to make IN YOUR OWN HANDWRITING a 3 x 5 vocabulary card for each word.  On the front, put the word (and its correct pronunciation--if you need it).  On the back, put the definition and use the word in a complete, correct sentence that shows understanding of the word.  I recommend making the cards early in the week so that you have time to learn the words.  We will normally have a quiz every Friday.  Bring your cards to turn in.  When you get to class on Friday, we will review the words.  Immediately afterward, you will turn in your cards and we will have the quiz.  I will call out 3 words at random.  You will write the word, spelled correctly, define the word, and use it correctly in a sentence that shows me that you understand the word.  This will be a 100 point quiz grade.  10 points for spelling (x 3), 10 for definition (x3), 10 for sentence (x3), 10 points for complete cards.  The words accumulate each week, so on week #2 you are responsible for weeks 1 & 2, etc.
