Berry College - PLUS Program

Preparing Leaders for Ultimate success is designed to motivate high school students to pursue post secondary education, provide skills needed to be successful in college, and expose multicultural students to Berry College as an option for college.  Applications for this week long program are available at http://www.berry.edu/stulife/multicultural/plus and are due May 16th.

Morehouse college - Project Identity

Project Identity's Summer Institute is an enrichment program that provides academically talented African American males and other males of color that are rising sophomores and juniors in high school with opportunities to learn and enjoy topics that they may not have been exposed to in their current academic setting.  Log onto www.morehouse.edu/projectidentity for an application and more information.

Mercer University - Pharmacy Scholars Summer Program

This program offers an opportunity for high school students with an interest in pharmacy to learn more about the profession and the educational and professional steps they should take to become a pharmacist.  An application and information is available at http://cophs.mercer.edu/pharmacyscholars.htm

 

 

 

Kayla Gattis Memorial Scholarship

Multiple scholarships are awarded in memory of Kayla Gattis - a former Lassiter High School student.  Kayla was a Lassiter cheerleader who was killed in an automoblie accident in 2006.  The scholarship is based on an essay and teacher recommendation.  Scholarship applications are available in the School Counseling Office and are due May 9th.

Blake Wolfe Memorial Scholarship

The Blake Wolfe Memorial Scholarship offers two academic scholarships worth $1,000 each.  To be eligible for the scholarship, seniors must have played at least 6 seasons in the last 8 years in the Sandy Plains Baseball Association. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office and are due May 15th.

Lambda Chi alpha Fraternity at Georgia Tech

A scholarship is offered to an incoming male student at Georgia Tech.  The fraternity values of loyalty, duty, respect, service & stewardship, honor, integrity and personal courage are stressed.  To apply for a scholarship worth $300-$700, log onto http://www.gtlambdachi.org/rush/rush-scholarship-application/

Atlanta Urban League Young Professionals

Four scholarships will be awarded to African-American high school seniors from the metropolitan Atlanta area. Students who will be attending a college or university and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, community service, and leadership are encouraged to apply at http://www.aulyp.net by June 30th

Tailwheels Etcetera - Flight School Scholarship

Tailwheels Etcetera sponsors a scholarship contest that will reward one high school student the opportunity to earn his or her private license for free. The scholarship includes the cost of flight time, flight instructor, written test, flight test and books. To register for the contest, students must make a 30 second You Tube video about why they would like to learn how to fly and post it on the wall of the Facebook page of Twilwheels Etcetera. Camp MAGIK

Camp MAGIK (Mainly About Grief In Kids) serves students who experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or other close family member within the past three years.  Camp MAGIK provides an opportunity for students to meet, talk, and process their grief with professional counselors.  Activities may include archery, canoeing, a ropes course, nature hikes, treasure hunts, etc. Sessions are free of charge for students.  Log onto www.campmagik.org for an application and chose a camp location and date session.

Summer Clinic for the Arts - Kennesaw State University

The KSU Summer Arts Clinic allows students to experience life as a KSU arts major.  A week long program is offered in: Band & Orchestra, Chorus, Classical & Jazz Guitar, Dance, Musical Theatre, Piano, and Visual Arts.  Students will study with artist-teachers, perform in both large and small ensembles, attend professional performances, take studio classes ina variety of media and learn how to be complete musicians, performers or artists.  Applications must be submitted by May 17th and can be found at www.kennesaw.edu/arts/summerclinic.

 

UGA - Pre-College Program

The University of Georgia offers a two week program for rising juniors and seniors.  Students will attend challenging academic classes, meet admissions representatives, live away from home and learn the balance act of extra-curricular activities in college.  For information about the program - go to http://www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/ppd/courses/by-subject/uga-pre-college-summer-programs.

 

Morgan Thomas Scholarship Fund

The Metro-Marietta Kiwanis Club established the Morgan Thomas Scholarship.  The award is primarily based on community service, financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office and are due April 15th.  Additional information can be found at www.cobbfoundation.com

Alpha Kappa Alpha College Prep Club

The PEARL Foundation & Rho Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sponsor this seminar which focuses on the college admissions process, financial aid, college entrance exams and the college experience.  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office and are due April 22nd.

Will to Win Scholarship

Merck Respiratory sponsors the Will to Win Scholarship for seniors who are outstanding, disciplined, determined and successful in managing their asthma.  Scholarships of $5,000 will be awarded to two seniors in each of the following categories: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Community Service, Athletics and Science.  Applications are due April 30th and can be located at www.willtowinscholarship.com

Summer Programs

Exploring Engineer Academy @ Georgia Tech

A week-long engineering program sponsored in conjunction with the Georgia Engineering Foundation and the Exloring Program an affiliate career education program of the Boy Scouts of America is being held on the Georgia Tech Campus from June 5-10.  Students will be given hands-on experience in the field of engineering.  Applications are available at www.atlantabsa.org.  Click on the far right tab that says "exploring", then click in the middle of the page for exploring engineer academy.  Regular registration is due April 15th.

FFA Wildlife Camp and FFA Horse Camp

The FFA Wildlife Camp is a week-long residential summer camp for boys and girls.  The goal of the program is to increase safety, awareness, and appreciation of wildlife and outdoor sports among young boys and girls in an exciting and dynamic environment.  The FFA Horse Camp is a week-long camp where students learn personalized horse riding, safety instruction, barn management, equine grooming, health and basic first aid.  Applications are available at www.wildlife.com and www.ffahorsecamp.com

Cambridge College Programme

The Cambridge College Programme targets high achieving high school students at the University of Cambridge, England.  The program offers academic courses, excursions around England, and sports.  Information and applications can be found at www.cambridgecollegeprogramme.org

Reading Skills and Speed Reading Programs

The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education offers a Reading Skills Program in Woodstock.  Information is available in the School Counseling Office or call 1-800-978-9596.
