January 9th – January 13th:
We will be going through the syllabus for this semester together and viewing the Blog. Students will be interviewing each other about their vacations and we will be talking about our New Year’s Resolutions. We will begin the topic of professions and work with new vocabulary and this will be combined with a grammar review of the present perfect tense and an introduction of the subjunctive mood.
Classwork:
Monday: No school
Tuesday: The syllabus was explained. Students interviewed their partners about what they did over the holidays and we discussed this as a class. We quickly reviewed the future and conditional tenses to prepare for tomorrow’s activity
Wednesday: Students drew and labeled previously known professions on the board. We completed our resolutions from yesterday and made up resolutions for famous people. We defined professions vocabulary from page 1 of our vocabulary packet and played a quick vocabulary line game
Thursday: We talked about our ideal jobs using the conditional tense. We began the PowerPoint pictures to memorize key vocabulary words from the first page of the vocabulary packet. We worked on defining vocabulary on page two. Students worked in groups to guess the name of the job from a PowerPoint presentation with a game and we finished off our vocabulary packet definitions.
Friday: We summarized what had happened in Rosalinda up to this moment by students completing some timed writing in Spanish. We then continued with our soap opera and students answered questions as we watched.
Homework:
Students must hand in a signed copy of the syllabus by Tuesday January 17th. Markers will also be checked on Tuesday. If possible, please also bring in some colored paper for the class!
Assessments:
There will be a quiz on professions vocabulary on Tuesday January 24th
Announcements:
If students sleep, use their phones or are not on task during the soap opera on Fridays they will earn a grade of zero for class participation for that week. No exceptions.
