January 9th – January 13th:
We will be going through the syllabus for this semester together and viewing the Blog. Students will be interviewing each other about their vacations and we will be talking about our New Year’s Resolutions. We will also be completing some written prompts about the vacation, reading a short story together and beginning our new soap opera.
Classwork:
Monday: No school
Tuesday: The syllabus was explained. Students interviewed their partners about what they did over the holidays and we discussed this as a class. We talked about academic honesty and class participation this semester and then students did a paired activity about different pictures and wrote about their vacations for 10 minutes.
Wednesday: We completed a vocabulary building activity on vocabulary topics which we will cover this semester. Students then got into groups of 3 and were given a different children’s’ toy each. They had 20 minutes to prepare a short story or skit centered around that object.
Thursday: We completed a sheet on all tenses using the verb hablar in the ‘yo’ form. We went through this together and then students received the rubrics and had time to finish preparing their skits. These were then performed in front of the class.
Friday: We finished our skits and then began watching our soap opera this week which is called ‘Corazon Salvaje’. We watched and students answered questions in English.
Homework:
Students must hand in a signed copy of the syllabus by Tuesday January 17th. Markers will also be checked on Tuesday. If possible, please also bring in some tissues for the class!
Assessments:
Class participation grades shall be earned each week. Students will NOT have a chance to make these up. If a student is off task (sleeping, texting, doing homework etc.) they will earn a maximum grade of 60% for that week.
Announcements:
None this week.
