This year I am teaching Spanish III and IV Honors and Spanish Accelerated III Honors! You can access the syllabii and obtain my contact information by clicking on the links on the left of this page.

If students need additional help I am available on both Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:45am.  The Hispanic Honors Society also organizes tutorial sessions at various times throughout the school year.

November  9th – November 13th:

Students will be spending the 1^st part of the week presenting their Telenovelas to the class.  They will finish our Extr@ episode from last week and complete the worksheet.  We will review the conditional tense and meet vocabulary related to society.

Week 14

November  9th – November 13th:

Students will be spending the 1^st part of the week preparing for the fashion show on Thursday and Friday.  We will be finishing our review of clothes vocabulary and reviewing all so far for our test on Wednesday.

Monday: Students each received a picture of a famous person and had to describe their clothes.  We played a class game with student descriptions and then we had a run through of our fashion shows.  The class gave feedback to their peers and we worked on errors together

Week 14

November  9th – November 13th:

Students will be meeting vocabulary related to the hotel and reviewing it with a variety of games and activities.  We will be starting a ‘problem of the week’ to review grammatical points which are causing problems.  This week we shall focus on ‘gustar’ and similar verbs.  We will be completing role plays and working together to discuss how we would deal with and resolve potential accommodation problems while in a Spanish speaking country.  We will start studying the present perfect tense and continue with our Telenovela on Friday.

Week 13

November  2nd – November 6th:

Students will be completing a class project to celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos and we shall be discussing this holiday, its importance and the different attitudes to death in our culture and Hispanic culture.  We will be working on our family vocabulary and will finish preparing our Telenovelas in pairs.  We will continue our television series and reinforce what we have learned so far in preparation for our test next week. Students will present their Telenovelas to the class starting on Monday of next week.

Week 13

Wednesday: We finished our skeletons and dressed them, labelling our clothes in Spanish. We then began work on preparing our fashion show.

Thursday: Students reviewed clothes vocabulary with a game of Bingo.  We then worked on our fashion show scripts, music and outfits for next week

Friday: Students had the entire period to prepare for the fashion show.  All scripts should now be finished.

Students must be ready to present their fashion shows on Thursday and Friday of next week.  This will count as 2 presentation/project grades.

October  26th – October 30th:

Students will be studying the unit of the family and building up our vocabulary as we learn vocabulary related to the extended family.  Students will be doing skits in pairs and acting out a problem they have had with their own parents while the class offers up recommendations or solutions in the subjunctive.  Students will then been examining a family picture and making up their own Telenovela, presenting this to the class next week.  We will continue with Extr@ on Friday

Monday: Students received their family vocabulary packet and we went through the 1st page of definitions together.  In pairs they made up skits on a recent family discussion and the class listened and offered suggestions and recommendations in Spanish

Tuesday: We studied the 2nd page of our vocabulary packet with definitions, watched the remainder of our skits and played Human Scrabble to review the future tense

Wednesday: We finished our vocabulary packet with definitions and began work on our Telenovela presentations in pairs

Thursday: We continued working on our Telenovela presentation and played Human Scrabble as a complete tense review

Friday: We watched the next episode of Extr@ and completed the worksheet. This was handed in for a grade

October  26th – October 30th:

Students will continue working on vocabulary related to clothes and practice reading with some articles about fashion and an individual’s right to self expression.  We will focus more on speaking Spanish in class and eliminating the speaking of English as we focus on communication and on improving fluency

Monday: We reviewed the 1st page of clothes vocabulary with a game of Memory in groups.  To review the future tense we played the whiteboard activity together

Tuesday: We read an article on "pantalones  bajos" and answered questions.  We then started a game of Human Scrabble to review the future tense

Wednesday: We completed a crossword on clothes vocabulary and then did some role-play scenarios in pairs.  We practiced circumlocution and then shared our skits with the class

Thursday: We played human scrabble to review general vocabulary and tenses and then read an article about dress code.  We finished by watching the video of this boy and discussing it in Spanish

Friday:We completed a wordsearch on clothes vocabulary and watched La Catrina episode 10

Homework:

Monday: We played a group activity with jumbled sentences to tell the story of an accident and finished watching Rosalinda from Friday while answering comprehension questions

Tuesday: Students worked in groups and walked around the room to compose a story using pictures.  We used the preterite, imperfect and future tenses and then played a quick vocabulary line game

Wednesday: We watched some British driving adverts and discussed drink driving, why it was still happening and what we could do about it.  We shared our opinions of the adverts in groups and as a class (in Spanish) and then shared our stories from yesterday with the class

Thursday: We had our fiesta today to celebrate members of the class being selected for GHP

Friday: We took the quiz on car vocabulary and then played human scrabble to review all the tenses we have learned so far

Homework:

Study vocabulary every night!  Listen to Spanish radio or watch Spanish television every night!

Timelines will be due on Friday October 30^th.  NO LATE WORK will be accepted!

Week 11

October  19th – October 23rd:

Students will be working on more basic vocabulary verbs and working with the simple and regular future tenses.  We will do some games and group activities to practice and reinforce our learning and we will begin our next topic of the family.  Students will be talking about how they get along with their families, studying quotes on the role of family and discussing their own experiences and thoughts.  We will continue with Extr@ and discuss family values in Hispanic and American society and how they differ and/or are similar

Classwork:

Monday: We finished defining our 2nd page of basic verbs and played a team game to review the future tense

Tuesday: In pairs and groups we will talk about the family and discuss some quotes relating to family life and the importance of looking after each other.  We will touch on the differences between the Hispanic and American family and in pairs students made up their own quotes on the importance and role of the family unit

Wednesday: We practiced our 2nd page of basic verbs with a game to practice oral and listening skills.  We  began talking about the relationships we have with the members of our families

Thursday: We continued our conversation on families from yesterday and discussed the role of parents.  We practiced changing verbs from the preterite to future tenses and we reviewed vocabulary for our quiz tomorrow

Friday: We took the quiz and then watched the next episode of Extr@.  Students completed the worksheet on this program which was turned in at the end of class

Assessments:

There will be a vocabulary quiz on the 2^nd page of basic verbs on Friday October 23^rd

Classwork on Friday was taken up for a grade
