March 29-April 2, 2010

Monday - We will discuss possible research topics.  Students will fill out a K-W-L chart about a possible topic.  We will go over how to analyze whether resources are credible for research. 

Homework - Cultural presentations are due on Friday.  

Tuesday - Wednesday - We will work on finding articles in the Media Center.

Thursday - Students will work on the presentation of the culture of the chosen group. 

Friday - Students will give presentations.

Friday - Students worked on assignments they missed while taking the graduation tests and asked for help with directions and questions.

March 29-April 2, 2010

Monday - I will explain the basic parts of a sentence and will demonstrate how to diagram these.  We will work on grammar exercises on pp. 13, 15, 37 and 201 of the grammar workbook. 

Homework - Do the exercises on pp.19 and 202.

Tuesday -  I will explain types of complements in a sentence and will demonstrate diagramming these.  Students will do exercises on pp. 53,57, and 61.  They will also practice diagramming sentences with complements. 

Homework - Do exercises.

Wednesday - I will teach about the types of phrases and will model diagrams.  Then students will work on exercises.

Thursday and Friday - We will work on comma rules and do exercises on pp. 171-177.

Monday - Thursday - Take the graduation tests.

March 22-26, 2010

Monday - Students will work on the crossword about "The Wooden Horse" in "Tales of the Trojan War".

Tuesday - Students will read an article of at least five paragraphs from USA Today.  Then students will write a 4-5 sentence summary of the article in their Reading Journals.  Students should also list the type of organization used by the author (compare/contrast, cause/effect, chronological, definition and example, most important to least important, least important to most important,  argument and reasons, etc.).

Wednesday - Students should write an opinion paragraph about their article in their Reading Journals.  They should also make five multiple-choice questions (with answers) about the story.  They should have one question in each category: main idea, detail, vocabulary, fact/opinion, organization type.

Thursday - Students should write about what they are learning in two of their classes (a paragraph about each).  Put this in the Reading Journals.

Friday - Each pair should report about their section of "The Wooden Horse".  Make a plot chart about "The Wooden Horse".  I'll check the Reading Journals and will check the textbook numbers.

Wednesday - We finished the EOCT Practice Test. 

Thursday - We read the beginning of "Achilles Avenges Patroclus".  Then each student had 3 pages to read and summarize in the Reading Journal.

Homework - Finish the summary.

Friday - Students read their summaries of Thursday's story.  Students work in pairs to read half of "The Wooden Horse".  Then each pair should draw 2 pictures about events in their section of the story.

Homework - Finish the pictures. 

March 15-19, 2010

Monday - Practice the words on flashcards.  Take a practice graduation test on the laptop or in the workbook.  Review for the vocab. quiz on Tue.

Tuesday - Take the Lit Terms I vocab. quiz.  Read pp. 39-45 in Strategies ...Reading.  Go over an exercise on s-v agreement.  Practice graduation test questions.

Wednesday -  Discuss Lit Terms II.  Read pp. 49-50 in Strategies ... Reading.  Find sound and figurative devices in poems.  Practice graduation test questions.

Thursday - Practice graduation test questions on the laptops.  Review for the vocab. quiz on Fri.

Friday - Take the vocab. quiz.  Practice on the laptops for the graduation tests.

March 15-19, 2010

Monday - I'll check the Reading Journals.  Students will take the EOCT Practice Test.  Then we will review the vocab. for the quiz on Tue.

Tuesday - Take the vocab. quiz.  Finish the EOCT Practice Test.

Wednesday - In pairs, read Book 2 of Trojan War Stories.  Make a chart of the plot.

Thursday - Read Book 3 and Book 4 as a jigsaw exercise in pairs.  Choose a way to present your pair's section to the rest of the class.

Friday - Present Books 3 and 4 to the class.  Read an article in the newspaper.

March 8-12, 2010

Monday - Take Writing Terms Quiz.  Work on spelling exercises on pp. 14-15 of the workbook.  Then add beginning letters to endings to make rhyming words.

Tuesday - Check homework.  Do exercises on finding main ideas and elements of nonfiction in the GHSGT on pages 47-49 and 93-96.  Then write summaries in the Reading Journals of the two passages.

Wednesday - Go over the answers to the exercises from yesterday.  Check the summaries and grade the Reading Journals.

Thursday - Discuss the Literary Terms list.  Analyze The Gods Must Be Crazy to find  the literary elements on the list.  Read pp. 67-69 in Strategies ...Reading.

Friday - Read pp. 64-66 and 70-74 in Strategies.  Check the analysis of The Gods Must Be Crazy.  Practice for the GHSGT on the laptops. 

Homework - The vocab. quiz will be on next Tuesday.

Monday - Take The Odyssey test. 

Tuesday - Look up definitions for words from Tales from the Trojan War.

Wednesday - Finish writing the definitions of the vocabulary. Begin reading the story about the beauty contest between the goddesses.

Homework - The vocab. quiz will be next Monday.  Finish reading the story.

Thursday - Diagram the plot of the first story in Tales from the Trojan War.  Read the second story in pairs.

Friday - Read the third story in pairs.  In the Reading Journals, diagram the plots of the first two stories.
