Monday - 7th exam.  We will present the projects on House on Mango Street.  Then we will begin review for the exam.

Tuesday and Wednesday - 5th and 6th exams.  Review for the exam.  Go over Summer Reading assignments.

Thursday - 3rd and 4th exams.

May 10-14, 2010

Monday - Choose vocab. for the exam.  Discuss spelling rules and work on spelling exercises on pp. 19-24.  Read aloud Funny in Farsi.

Tuesday - Work on pp. 48-51 in the spelling workbook.  Review the Hadza article.  Read aloud Funny in Farsi.

Wednesday - Work on the study sheet for the exam.  Review "The Gods Must Be Crazy".  Work on pp. 55-65 in the workbook.  Read aloud Funny in Farsi.

Thursday - Review Rain in a Dry Land.  Work on pp. 66-72 in the workbook.

Friday - Review Funny in Farsi.  Work on pp. 73-76 in the workbook.  Do a review Bingo game.

May 10-14, 2010

Monday - Take Day 2 of the EOCT. 

Tuesday - Go over the project directions for The House on Mango Street. It is due on next Monday.  Read pp. 33-57 aloud in the novel and discuss. 

Homework - Bring old vocab. quizzes.  Read pp. 58-63 in the novel.

Wednesday - Choose the vocab. for the exam.  Read pp. 64-86 in the novel. 

Homework - Finish pp. 87-92

Thursday - Read pp. 93-108 in the novel.

Homework - Read to p. 114.

Friday - Finish the novel.  The project is due on Monday.

May 3-7, 2010

Monday - I will show the explanations and examples of the Works Cited page in the Cobb Research Guide.  Students work on the rough draft or the Works Cited page of the research paper.

Tuesday - The Works Cited page is due.  Students will register for turnitin.com.  Then they will work on the final draft.

Wednesday - Thursday - Work on the final draft of the papers, adding and changing information if necessary.

Friday - The final draft is due.  Students will read their papers to the class.

Monday - Work on the EOCT Practice Test questions missed by the class, discussing how to choose correct answers.  I will read aloud the beginning of The House on Mango Street.

Tuesday - Continue working on EOCT Practice Test.  Read aloud House on Mango Street.

Homework - Write in your Reading Journal about your name.

Wednesday - Thursday - Continue as on Tuesday.

Friday - Take the Ninth Lit EOCT.

April 26-30, 2010

Monday - I will model how to write an outline.  Students will write an outline to include the topics thy have researched.  They will also continue to take notes on their cultural group.  I will check these notes (from 5 articles).

Homework - The outline is due Tuesday, the vocab. quiz is Wednesday, and the rough draft is due on Friday.

Tuesday - Students will continue to research their cultural group. 

Wednesday - Students will take the Cultural Terms vocab. quiz.  They will start writing their rough drafts.

Thursday -   Work on the rough drafts will continue.

Friday - The rough draft is due.  We will register for turnitin.com.

May 26-30, 2010

Monday - Wednesday - Students will watch the DVD of To Kill a Mockingbird.  They will write in their Reading Journals about the differences between the play and the movie.

Thursday - Students will work on USA Test Prep on the laptops.

Friday - Students will attend a Maycomb Tea, reviewing facts about To Kill a Mockingbird.

April 19-23, 2010

Monday - Students will read articles on their research topic.   They will highlight vocabulary words.  They will also take Cornell notes on an article.  We will discuss cultural aspects of Rain in a Dry Land.

Homework - The vocab. quiz will be on Friday.

Tuesday - Students will read an article and map the ideas it contains.   They will work on listing their sources and organizing the sources.  I will read an excerpt from Funny in Farsi.

Wednesday - I will read another excerpt from Funny in Farsi.  Students will continue to research their topics.  They will take notes or highlight ideas.

Thursday - We will review vocabulary for the quiz.  I will explain the outline.  Students will read and take notes on their topics.

Friday - Vocabulary quiz.  Students will write their outlines for their research papers.
