Math 2 Week 1-30-12

We will wrap up our Data Analysis unit this week with a Test on Thursday 2-2-12.

Please start studying your past quiz and homework on this unit. You must memorize the formula for z score:

z = (x - mean)/standard deviation. Also, memorize the empirical rule: 68% of the data under a normal distribution  curve is one standard deviation away from the mean. 95% of the data under a normal distribution  curve is two standard deviations away from the mean. And 99.7% of the data under a normal distribution  curve is three standard deviations away from the mean.

Other vocabulary that you are expected to know is: mean, mode, median, range, interquartile range-IQR, Q1, Q3, box and whisker plot, variance (= standard deviation squared) 5 number summary, frequency, and how to use the z table(chart) and mean absolute deviation. Study all notes.

GPS Algebra Week of 1-23-12

Today we started a task about the average rate of change. Please finish to letter k for homework. We will continue to work on the last page of the task tomorrow.

Slope of a line is the rate of change  = the difference in the change of y / the difference in the change of x

Bring your textbook on Wednesday.

We begin sequences on Thursday.

 

Math 2 - Week of 1-23-12

Today our task is to calculate the standard deviation by hand. The formula is given and the data has two lists. One with the number of each data point and the other with that data's frequency.

Example:  data set 2,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,4,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5,5

The first list - data: 2,  3,  4,  5,

The second list is the frequency: 5 (there are 5 #2s), 9 (there are 9 #3s), 5 (there are 5 #4s) and 11 (there are eleven #5s.)

We will work with this data on the calculator tomorrow. We will also learn about normal distribution and z scores.

Tonight's homework is to finish the task that we did in class today.

Homework is in the book tomorrow. Please bring your book to class tomorrow.

GPS Algebra Week of 1-17-12

We are very excited to have a student teacher from Kennesaw State University, Ms. Edenfield, who will be with us until the end of April. She is very competent in Mathematics and has already been of help to students in the classroom.

We are studying Logic Statements and will have a Quiz on Friday 1-20-12.

You should study the notes daily. Be able to tell the definition and notation for the vocabulary: hypothesis, conclusion, conditional statement, converse, inverse, contrapositive, biconditional statement, and equivalent statements.

 

Math 2 Week of 1-17-2012
