Math 2 Week of 9-26-11

Our Test has been changed to Thursday 9-29-11 due to the GHGWT that the Juniors must take.

Extra Help session on Wed. and Thurs. morning and afternoon. 7:45

Last day to make up the quiz #1B Thursday afternoon.

There are three formulas to memorize for Arithmetic Sequence and Series.  Check your notes and the orange foldable handed out in class. To find the rule of an arithmetic sequence we find the common difference, multiply by n, and add the zero term, term before the 1st term.  This is a linear equation of the form y = mx + b, that is changed to a_n = dn + a₀ .

P.141 #19. answer = 112  -> 8/2(7 + 21) = 112 using the sum formula  S_n = n/2 (a₁ + a_n)

We worked an iRespond Formative Quiz today that we will go over tomorrow in preparation for our test on Thursday.

A new calendar will be given out on Friday.

 

GPS Algebra Week of 9-26-11

This week we have an assessment over operations with polynomials, as well as classifying them.

If you are having difficulty with homework, you need to come in to an extra help session. 

 Quiz 9-27-11: Tutoring is Wed. - Thurs. before and after school. M-F before school 7:45-8:05am.

We will work with Pascal's triangle to expand binomials.  Then, we start to factor polynomials.  These factoring skills are important to learn.  There are four methods that we will learn in this class and two more that you will learn in a later class.

Factoring that we will learn in GPS Algebra: Greatest Common Factor, Grouping, Trinomials which include perfect square trinomials and regular trinomials, and Difference of Two Squares.

GPS Algebra - Week of 9-19-11

The Algebra Investigation Unit deals with operations of polynomials. Last week we classified, added and subtracted polynomials. This week we are multiplying and dividing polynomials.  This is the foundation of Algebra. If you are struggling with these concepts, please come in for an extra help session before school M-F or after school Wed. and Thursday 3:30-4:00pm.

Math 2 Week of 9-19-11

We have been studying the quadratic function for 5 weeks. Our quiz on graphing is tomorrow, 9-21-11.

Remember to graph a parabola, you need at least three points; the vertex, roots, y- intercept and its symmetric point. Always mark the line of symmetry with a dotted line as shown in the answer key.

Also, you will need to study your notes on how to find the discriminant: b² - 4ac, if = 0, there is one real root, if > 0, there are two real roots, if < 0, there are two imaginary roots. 

The quadratic formula may always be used to find the roots, however, it is easier to factor for some equations.

Math 2 Week of 9-12-11

We begin the graphing part of the quadratic unit today.  Please use your foldable on this unit if you are having difficulty finding the roots, vertex, or axis of symmetry.  The worksheet is challenging, but give it a good try and we will discuss it tomorrow.

GPS Algebra Week of 9-12-11

Today we reviewed our packets for the Unit 1 Test on Data Analysis,Probability and Statistics.

1st period correction: The answer to #6 is 780 my original answer. ₄₀C₃₈ = 40!/38!*2!= 780.

I will be here for tutoring tomorrow morning at 7:30 - 7:45 then I must attend a faculty meeting.

We begin a new unit on Wednesday - Algebra Investigation.
