Progress reports will go out this week. While I'd planned to send them out today, NovaNET was offline for a period or two last week, so I want to give the students two full weeks to work before printing an update. Again, if parents will email receipt of the report, we can establish email contact if we haven't already done so. At this 9 week semester mid-point, students should be 50% of the way through the course(s) to be considered on track to recover credit. Thank you to all parents who signed and returned the six-week progress report or emailed me that they had seen it.
Nine-week conferences should take place by the end of the week for any student with a D or F in any class. In NovaNET, I'll conference with any student not on track to finish the course(s) on time to recover credit this semester. Students who know they need NovaNET for Spring semester should be proactive in meeting with the counselor so space is saved and there's no lag time at the start of Spring semester while a student tries to see a counselor for NovaNET placement at the very busy beginning of the semester. As you know, priority at that time is new students, students with no schedule or a missing class. Getting registered now for NovaNET for Spring ensures that the student who needs the course can get started as soon as paperwork is signed and returned.
I continue to open the lab daily by 7:45 a.m. for students who want to come in for extra time. Some students are also coming in at lunch, and I keep a record of who comes for extra time. Feel free to contact me to see if your student is coming in for extra time. It's very helpful as the smaller group setting gives us more time to work one-on-one, if needed. As NovaNET is not accessible at home, coming to class daily and coming in for extra time is essential for success.
Finally, any student enrolled in an English class for credit recovery has offline assignments. To date, no student has handed in a paper to be graded. DEADLINE for English papers is Friday, October 29. This will give me time to grade the papers and get them in the gradebook. It also ensures that the student is not overwhelmed at the end of the semester while studying for EOCTS, preparing final projects, and studying for exams.
