GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given back the Practice with Rational Functions Assessment that you began in class on Monday and completed yesterday.  As you were told in advance, this assessment was graded for accuracy.  I explained how it was graded (see Pinnacle for details) and provided you with a worked-out answer key for each of the six problems.  All questions were answered.

You were then given a two problem Extra Practice for Unit 4 Test Worksheet to complete in class.  One problem was graphing a Quadratic Function and the other was graphing a Square Root Function.  You were turn this paper in at the end of the class period.  I will give it back at the beginning of class tomorrow so that you can complete it if you did not today.

GPS Algebra Classes

I began class by answering any questions you had on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test.

You were then given an Extra Practice Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test Worksheet to complete in class.  The solutions to this assignment were put on the document camera prior to class ending so that you were able to check your answers for accuracy.

The homework assignment for today is to study for the Unit 4 Test, which is tomorrow. 

*Be sure to bring your own calculator, pencil, and eraser to class tomorrow!

Tuesday, February 28th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given back the assessment over Rational Functions to complete in class.  This assignment was to be turned in once you finished.

You were given the rest of the class period to work on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test for GPS
Algebra.

GPS Algebra Classes 

You were given back the Unit 4 Quiz #2.  I spent the majority of the class period going over the solutions and working out problems from the Quiz.

You were given the remaining time to work on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test and bring any questions you have to class tomorrow.

Monday, February 27th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We spent the majority of the class period reviewing for the assessment over Rational Functions.  We went through examples of each of the three types of problems that are included on the assessment.

You were then given the assessment and allowed to work up until the end of class.  You will be given the assessment back tomorrow at the beginning of class and given time to complete it.

*Make sure you bring your textbook to class tomorrow as I am giving you the class period to work on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test for GPS Algebra.

GPS Algebra Classes

We spent the beginning of class discussing the Unit 4 Test, which is this Thursday (3/1).  I reviewed the six parent functions with you and we went back over how to find the vertex, axis of symmetry, and points for the table in order to graph a quadratic function.

I then explained the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test.  You were given the majority of the class period to work on this assignment. 

The homework assignment for today is to continue to work on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Test.

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We spent the entire class period reviewing for the Unit 4 Quiz #2.  We reviewed all topics as well as did several examples.

You will have an assessment (to be graded for accuracy) on Monday (2/27) over Rational Functions.

Thursday, February 23rd

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given back your graded printout of the Spiral Notebook Check from yesterday.  I explained how it was graded.

You were then given some more time to complete the Lesson 3.6 Practice Worksheet.  We went over the solutions to this assignment and I went through and worked out in detail # 23 and 24.

I then spent the last couple of minutes answering questions on the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Quiz #2, which is due today in GPS Algebra.

GPS Algebra Classes

As you entered the room there was a warm-up problem for you to complete.  I gave you a chance to complete it on your own first and then compare what you got with those sitting around you.  We went over the solution to the problem in class.

I then explained how Tuesday's homework assignment (page 153 # 2, 8, 10, 12, and 14) was graded and handed it back to you.  Because I only graded # 2 and 8 for completion, you were given a copy for the worked-out solution key for these two problems.  I then went over the solutions for the other three problems.

The rest of the class period was spent going over the solutions and answering questions to the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Quiz #2.

The homework assignment for today is to study for the Unit 4 Quiz #2, which is tomorrow.

Wednesday, February 22nd

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You turned in your Spiral Notebook.  It was graded and returned to you in class.  You will receive your grade sheet for this assignment back tomorrow in class.

You were given Lesson 3.6 Practice Worksheet.  This assignment reviewed Rational Functions.  I went through the directions for each of the sections in class and did several examples with you, including #22 on the worksheet.

You were to work on this assignment in class and if necessary, I will provide you with a few more minutes at the beginning of class tomorrow to complete it.

*Be sure to bring this worksheet with you to class tomorrow.

GPS Algebra Classes

As you walked in the room there was a note on the document camera for you to turn in yesterday's homework assignment (page 153 # 2, 8, 10, 12, and 14).

We then went over the solutions to Friday's homework assignment (page 138-139 # 2, 4, 7, 10-15, 16, 18, and 20) and all questions were answered.

I then spent some time reviewing Rational Functions.  You were given an example of a Rational Function where you had to do the following:

1) compare it to the parent graph

2) find the vertical asymptote

3) find the horizontal asymptote

4) find the domain

5) find the range

After you were given time to complete this problem, we went over the solutions.  We also went through an example (all of the steps) of graphing a Rational Function.

You were then given the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Quiz #2.  I went over the directions for each section and provided you with some additional information to write down in order to help you with section II, III, and VII.  You were given the last few minutes of class to begin working on the Review Worksheet.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Review Worksheet for the Unit 4 Quiz #2.

*As stated on the worksheet, you must use your own graph paper for all of the problems you are asked to graph.

Tuesday, February 21st

GPS Algebra Support Classes

I went back over the information (this was the third time) that needs to be included in the Spiral Notebook for the check that will be tomorrow.

We then spent the rest of the class period reviewing Graphing Square Root Functions.  I went through the directions for each section on the GPS Algebra homework assignment (page 138-139 # 2, 4, 7, 10-15, 16, 18, and 20) that is due today.  I then went through three graphing problems in class.  You were to write these down as we went through them.  I did one example just like #2 on the homework assignment and then I did # 17 and 19 page 139, which were just like # 18 and 20.

*Remember to bring your Spiral Notebook to class tomorrow for the check. 

 GPS Algebra Classes

We went through a PowerPoint for notes on Graphing Rational Functions.  This is Lesson 3.6, which begins on page 150 in your textbook.

This is the last new lesson prior to the Unit 4 Quiz #2, which is this Friday (2/24) and the Unit 4 Test, which is next Thursday (3/1).

The homework assignment for today is: Page 153 # 2, 8, 10, 12, and 14.

*Recall that in class today you were told that either the homework assignment from Friday or today will be collected and graded when you come to class tomorrow.

Extra Help Session Changed

I will NOT be available for extra help on Tuesday, February 21 from 3:35-3:55 PM.

However, I WILL be available for extra help on Thursday, February 23 from 3:35-3:55 PM instead.

Friday, February 17th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given back the graded Transformation Assessment from yesterday.  I explained how it was graded.  You had the opportunity to earn a 106%.  A copy of the answers was stapled to the back of your paper.

We spent time reviewing Even and Odd Functions.  You were given a handout titled: How do you know if a function is Even, Odd, or Neither?  We went through this together in class.  

The rest of the class period was spent answering any questions you had on the GPS Algebra homework assignment (page 128 # 1-6, and 10-15; page 129 # 1-3, and 5-11) that is due today.

We went through new notes (using a PowerPoint Presentation) on Graphing Square Root Functions.  This is Lesson 3.3, which begins on page 135 in your textbook.

We then went over the solutions to yesterday's homework assignment (page 128 # 1-6, and 10-15; page 129 # 1-3, and 5-11) and questions were answered.

The homework assignment for today is: Page 138-139 # 2, 4, 7, 10-15, 16, 18, and 20.
