GPS Algebra Support Classes

We reviewed several topics at the beginning of class...factoring, permutations, combinations, probability, and expected value.

You were given the rest of the class to complete the Final Exam Practice Assessment.

You were given your Final Exam Review Packet back and I explained how it was graded. 

I answered all questions you had over Unit 1 material.

Monday, December 12th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given the class period to ask questions to prepare for the Unit 3 Test #1, which was today in GPS Algebra.

Any time remaining, you were able to get your Final Exam Review Packet ready to turn in.

*Remember that tomorrow and Thursday you will have a ten problem multiple-choice Final Exam Review assessment that will be graded for accuracy.  You may use your Spiral Notebook for these assessments, so make sure to bring it with you to class both days.

Friday, December 9th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You turned in your Spiral Notebook.  It was graded and returned to you, along with the grade sheet, in class. 

The solutions to the handout (#1-11) that reviewed functions from yesterday were presented by you and/or your classmates.

The rest of the class period was given to you to work on the Final Exam Review Packet.

*You were told in class today that on Tuesday and Thursday next week, you will have a Final Exam Practice Worksheet to complete in class.  It will consist of ten multiple-choice problems and each assignment will be graded for accuracy.

GPS Algebra Classes

As you entered the room, you were to pick up a Warm-Up worksheet that reviewed the Characteristics of Graphs.  You were given time to complete it and then the solutions were presented on the document camera.  All questions were answered.

I then handed out a copy of the solutions to the Review Worksheet for Unit 3 Test #1.  You were given time to check your answers and then I answered all of your questions.

If there was any time left in class, you were able to work on the Final Exam Review Packet.

The homework assignment for today is to study and prepare for the Unit 3 Test #1 as well as complete the Final Exam Review Packet.

*You were told that you need to have the Final Exam Review Packet ready to turn in as you enter the room on Monday.

Thursday, December 8th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

I went back over the ten items that must be included in the Spiral Notebook.  The next Spiral Notebook Check will be tomorrow, December 9th.  This will be the last check for this semester. 

*Remember that you may use your Spiral Notebook on the Final Exam.

You were given a handout that reviewed functions.  The handout included three word problems that we did together in class.  These were # 12, 13, and 14.  You were given the rest of the class period to complete # 1-11.  We will go over the solutions tomorrow in class.

*Make sure to bring your textbook and Final Exam Review Packet to class tomorrow.  You will be given the day to work on it.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went over the solutions to yesterday's assignment (Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet B) after you were give an opportunity to compare with those sitting around you.

*I reminded you that the Final Exam Review Packet is due on Monday, December 12th.  It must be neat and organized.  Unit 1 work together on top, then Unit 2 work together, and finally Unit 3 work together.

The Review Worksheet for the Unit 3 Test #1 was handed out.  We discussed the problems in class and you were given the majority of the class period to work on this assignment.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Review Worksheet for the Unit 3 Test #1 if you did not complete it during class.

Wednesday, December 7th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given time to complete yesterday's assignment: Notetaking Guide, page 39, # 1-23 odd.

If you were called on, you then presented one of these problems to the class.  Prior to presenting on the document camera, you were given a marker and a piece of paper to write the problem, work, and answer on.  All problems were presented and discussed in class.  It was your job to check your answers for accuracy as the problems were presented.

You were allowed to work on the Final Exam Review Packet for the last few minutes of class.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went over the solutions to yesterday's homework assignment (Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet A).  You were first given time to check your graph and then compare what you had for the characteristics with other students.  The solutions were put on the document camera and all questions were answered.

You were given the Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet B.  We discussed both of the problems and then you were able to work on, and possibly complete, this assignment during class.  Whatever time you had left, you could use to work on the Final Exam Review Packet.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet B, if necessary.

*The Final Exam Review Packet needs to be completed by this Monday, December 12th.

Tuesday, December 6th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We filled in the vocabulary on page 35 and 51 in your Notetaking Guide.  You then completed page 54 # 1-6 on your own first, then compared your answers with others, and then we went over the solutions together as a class.

We then reviewed evaluating functions and finding a value for x if you are given the value of the function.  On page 39 I completed with you step-by-step # 2, 12, 14, and 24.  Your assignment for the rest of the class period was to complete # 1-23 odd on page 39.  We will discuss this assignment tomorrow in class.

GPS Algebra Classes

As you walked in the room you were to turn in yesterday's homework assignment (Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet) and pick up the In Class Practice Worksheet and begin working.

While you were working, I graded the homework assignment.  We went over the In Class Practice Assignment first.  I then handed back your graded homework assignment and we went over the solutions.

You were given the Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet A.  We discussed both problems and you were allowed to work on this assignment for the remaining time in class.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Characteristics of Graphs Worksheet A if you did not do so in class.

We spent the class period reviewing the material taught in GPS Algebra on Friday.  We put all of the review information in the Spiral Notebook.  The following ten items should be in the Spiral Notebook for the next check, which will be the last Spiral Notebook check for this semester.

The Unit 3 Quiz #1 was handed back.  I explained how the Quiz was graded.  For the problems you missed, I wrote the correct answer on your paper for you.  I answered all questions.

You were to write down the Characteristics of Functions that we went over in class on Friday.  These were:

1) Min. Value or Max. Value

2) X-Intercepts

3) Zeros

4) Interval of Increase

5) Interval of Decrease

6) Left End Behavior

7) Right End Behavior

You were given the homework assignment for today.  We discussed both problems in detail.  You were to use class time to complete the table and graph for the two functions and then find four other students in the class who have the same answers you do.  Then you could begin working on stating the characteristics of each of the functions.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Characteristics of Functions handout if you did not in class.

*The last set of new notes was taught to you last Friday, December 2nd.  There are no new notes for the rest of this semester.

*The Unit 3 Test #1 is one week from today, December 12th.

*The Final Exam Review Packet is also due on Monday, December 12th.

GPS Algebra Support Classes

You were given the class period today to work on the Final Exam Review Packet for GPS Algebra.  You worked individually for the majority of the class period and then given some time to work with others.  I answered questions towards the end of the class period.

You will also be given this opportunity next Friday (12/9) as well.

GPS Algebra Classes

The warm-up assignment was to graph a quadratic function.  We then used this function to learn about the following concepts:

-Maximum and Minimum Points

-X-Intercepts and Zeros

-Intervals of Increase and Decrease

-Left and Right End Behavior

After answering the seven questions on the back of the warm-up handout, you were given an additional handout with the Notes on the topics mentioned above.  I went through these Notes with you and then provided you with another example (absolute-value graph) where you had to answer the same seven questions from the back of the warm-up handout. 

After you were given time to compare your answers with others, we went through the solutions together as a class.

The homework assignment for today is:

1) Study and review the notes and two examples from class today

2) Continue to work on the Final Exam Review Packet
