GPS Algebra Support Classes
You were told today that you could use your Spiral Notebook on the GPS Algebra Support Final Exam. You may only use your notebook and only one notebook. So prior to the Final Exam, make sure you have everything included in one notebook.
We began class by going back over the six parent graphs that we wrote in our Spiral Notebook the week before the break. We discussed each one in detail including its name, equation, table of values, and graph.
We then turned to page 6 in the Notetaking Guide and filled in the vocabulary definitions of: function, domain, input, range, output, independent variable, and dependent variable.
We went through two examples of being given a table and deciding if the relation was a function or not (both were functions), and then what the domain and range were.
I took a volunteer to come to the document camera and provide the class with an example of a relation that is not a function.
You were given a handout (a copy of page 8 in the Notetaking Guide) that reviewed functions. This assignment was to be completed and turned in during class. You were told that this assignment would be graded for accuracy prior to it being handed out.
GPS Algebra Classes
*You were reminded that you are to bring your Textbook along with the Final Exam Review Packet to class each day until the packet is due on Monday, December 12th.
*I also reminded you of your Unit 3 Quiz #1 this Thursday, December 1st.
We began class by reviewing the six parent graphs. We discussed each one in detail including its name, equation, and what the sketch of the graph looks like. We also reviewed vertical shifts up and down, vertical stretches and shrinks, and reflections across the x-axis. You were given an example of a cubic function and asked to list the two comparisons of this function to that of the parent function. You were given time to work individually, compare your answer with a neighbor, and then we went over the solution together in class.
You were given a handout with detailed Notes on Vertical Stretches and Shrinks for Linear Functions. We read through and discussed the notes together and you were asked to highlight two parts.
You were then given a Transformation of Linear Functions Warm-Up. You were to complete this in class. You were given time to work through the entire assignment individually and then allowed to compare your annswers with another student sitting around you. We went through the solutions together in class.
The homework assignment for today is to continue to work on the Final Exam Review Packet and study for the upcoming Unit 3 Quiz #1.
