Monday, January 30th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

Students came to the document camera and worked out # 2-5 on page 204 of the Notetaking Guide.  I then went through # 6 and 7 with you.

The rest of the class period was spent answering any questions you had over the GPS Algebra homework assignment (page 187 # 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20) from Friday.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went through new Notes on Recursive Sequences.  You were provided a copy of the notes.  There were three examples included in the notes that you were to fill in as we went over them in detail during class.  

The Recursive Form of Sequences Worksheet was handed out and you were given time in class to begin this assignment.

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Recursive Form of Sequences Worksheet.

Friday, January 27th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

I began class by answering questions on the homework assignment (Practice with Sequences Worksheet) for GPS Algebra that is due today.

We then used the Notetaking Guide to review what was taught about sequences yesterday in GPS Algebra.  You were to write the definition of sequence and terms on page 201.  We then completed #1 on page 204 together in class.  Your assignment was to complete # 2-7 on page 204.  We will go over and discuss the solutions to this assignment during class on Monday.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went over the solutions to the Practice with Sequences Worksheet from yesterday.  All questions were answered.

We then went through new Notes on Closed (also called Explicit) Sequences.  You were provided a copy of the notes.  These notes cover Lesson 3.13 on page 185 in your textbook.

You were given time in class to begin your homework assignment.

The homework assignment for today is: Page 187 # 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

Thursday, January 26th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We spent the majority of class today discussing the word problems on the homework assignment from GPS Algebra.  These problems were # 35 and 36 on page 26 in the textbook.  We worked through # 35 together.  I got you started on # 36 and then gave you time to complete it on your own.

I then explained how the Lesson 1.5 Practice Worksheet, that I collected at the end of class on Tuesday, was graded.  I handed back your graded paper and answered all of your questions over this assignment.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went over the solutions to yesterday's homework assignment (page 25 # 1-3, 15-18, 21, 22, and 26; page 26 # 35 and 36).  All questions were answered.

We then went through new notes on Sequences.  This is Lesson 3.13 on page 185 in your textbook.  You were given a copy of notes that had a few examples for you to fill in as we went through them. 

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Practice with Sequences Worksheet.  Use the examples in your notes to help you complete this assignment correctly.

 

Wednesday, January 25th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

I returned to you your given your Spiral Notebook Check gradesheet.

We then reviewed slope by working through several different types of problems.  Students presented the solutions on the document camera.

GPS Algebra Classes

The Unit 3 Quiz #2 was returned.  I went over the solutions to the Quiz and answered all questions.

We then reviewed slope and rate of change.  You were given some notes to take on positive, negative, zero, and undefined slopes as well as the slope formula.  We then went through an example just like each section you have for homework on page 25 in your textbook.

I stressed the importance of the two word problems that are included in your homework assignment on page 26.  Be sure to read through the problems carefully and each answer each part for each problem.

The last 10-20 minutes of class was given to you to begin working on your homework assignment.

The homework assignment for today is: Page 25 # 1-3, 15-18, 21, 22, and 26.  Page 26 # 35 and 36. 

Tuesday, January 24th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

Your Spiral Notebook was turned in, graded, and returned to you in class.  You will receive your gradesheet tomorrow in class.

We went over page 23 in the Notetaking Guide.  We discussed the slope of the two graphs (one of a vertical line and one of a horizontal line).  You were given time to complete # 3 and 4 on page 23.  We went over the solutions to these in class.

You were then given Lesson 1.5 Practice Worksheet.  I went over the directions for each section with you in detail.  You were given the rest of the class period to complete this assignment.  It was due by the end of the period.  It will be graded and returned to you later this week.

GPS Algebra Classes

You were given time to compare # 1, parts j and k on the Rate of Change Task with your partner.  We then discussed the solutions.  The Rate of Change Task was finished in class today and all answers were discussed.

*Be sure to bring your textbook to class tomorrow.

Monday, January 23rd

GPS Algebra Support Classes

I went back over the information that needs to be included in the Spiral Notebook check for tomorrow.  This will be the first check of the semester.

We then spent the rest of the period discussing slope and rate of change.  We used our Notetaking Guide to do this.  On page 21, you filled in the definitions of slope and rate of change.  Under the definition of slope you were to also write the slope formula.  On page 22, under the "Your Notes" column, you were to draw a line with a postive, negative, zero, and undefined slope.  We then completed example 2 on page 22.  We reviewed how to find the slope of a line by using the slope formula as well as the graph (rise over run).

You were then to complete #1 and 2 at the bottom of page 22 using the slope formula.  These solutions were presented by your classmates.

*Remember to bring both your Spiral Notebook and Notetaking Guide to class tomorrow!

GPS Algebra Classes

You were given the Rate of Change Task.  You were assigned a partner to work with and you were to complete #1 a-i.  I stopped you periodically and we went through the solutions for a few of the questions at a time.

The homework assignment for today is to complete #1 part j and k on the Rate of Change Task.

Friday, January 20th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We spent today reviewing for the GPS Algebra Quiz.  I began class by putting up the solutions to the Review Worksheet for the Unit 3 Quiz #2.  All questions were answered.

We then went over in detail section two of the review worksheet.  We discussed the difference in the two types of directions:

1) Evaluate the function for the given value of x.

2) Find the value of x if given the value of the function.

We went through many examples on these topics.  We did some together and then you did some on your own as well.  We went through the solutions to each of the problems.

Your Spiral Notebook will be collected and graded early next week so make sure you have it ready to turn in.

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We continued to put logic definitions in the Spiral Notebook.  Your Spiral Notebook should include the definitions of the following words:

1.  Conditional Statement

2.  Negation

3.  Converse

4.  Inverse

5.  Contrapositive

6.  Biconditional

You were then given an In Class Practice Worksheet to complete.  We went over the solutions during class as well.

You were given time in class to ask any questions you had over the Review Worksheet for the Unit 3 Quiz #2, which was the homework assignment for GPS Algebra due today.

GPS Algebra Classes

We went over the Review Worksheet for the Unit 3 Quiz #2.  You were given a handout with the nine definitions included on it.  I read through each definition for you during class.

You were then given a Multiple Choice Logic Warm-Up to complete in class (it consisted of six problems).  Two of the problems included were a review of the following:

1.  Evaluating functions given a value of x

2.  Finding the value of x if you are given the value of the function

*For more practice on these two topics, go to page 41 in your textbook and work through some odd problems and check your answers in the back of the book.

We went over the soltions to this assignment and all questions were answered in class. 

The homework assignment for today is to study for the Unit 3 Quiz #2, which is tomorrow. 

*Be sure to bring a calculator, pencil, and eraser to class tomorrow to use on the Quiz.

Wednesday, January 18th

GPS Algebra Support Classes

We began class with handout that reviewed conditional statement, hypothesis, conclusion, coverse, and inverse.  You were given a statement and asked to provide the previous mentioned information.  We went over the solutions to this assignment in class.

We then completed writing the converse, inverse, contrapostive, and biconditional statement of the conditional statement: p implies q.

You were to then get out your new 70-page Spiral Notebook.  We began some notes on Logic.  You were given the definition of conditional statement as well as a few other facts about conditional statements to write in your Spiral Notebook.  We will finish writing these notes tomorrow.

GPS Algebra Classes

As you walked in the room, there was a note for you to get out yesterday's homework assignment (page 207 # 11-16 all).  We went over the solutions in detail.  All questions were answered.

I then explained, in detail, how last Friday's homework assignment (page 205 # 1-10 all) was graded.  I returned the graded assignment to you and we went over the solutions and all of your questions were answered.  This assignment was graded for completion only and not for accuracy.  Therefore, it was very important for you to check your answers for accuracy in class.

You were then given the Review Worksheet for Unit 3 Quiz #2.  You were told that you did not need to rewrite the definitions of the nine words in section one, but instead could find them in your notes and highlight them.  Make sure you know what the definitons are and how to apply them.  I also explained for you the two truth tables on the back of the handout. 

The homework assignment for today is to complete the Review Worksheet for Unit 3 Quiz #2.
